SONAR X3

SONAR X3

Registration info saved anywhere?
Hi,.
I just moved computers and totally forgot about the license info for this program. I still have the data on my old computer; is there a file somewhere that Sonar looks for on startup that I can just copy across to the new computer?

I changed emails years ago and so can't access my account at Cakewalk and now they're bought out.

I'd appreciate any tips. Thanks!

Forget that and do this instead...

Yup it's the real deal and the price! (FREE!!!).
Thanks but I'm not intersted in using that service. It says that the company reserves the right to use anything you record on their software. That is not acceptable, even for free.

I'm happy with what I have, I just want to continue using it.
That is for things you upload or record through Bandlab, not via the Cakewalk software itself.

Bandlab has apps you can install on Android or iPhones that act as stomp boxes and for collaboration. That is what the disclaimer is all about.
Thanks for the info. I'd still like to get access to my program though as I have many projects there.

Hopefully someone knows where the file is!
Option 1: Launch Sonar on your old PC . then select Help > About SONAR...
Option 2: In Steam > Library > Software > right-click SONAR > click on View CD Key

Note that Option 2 will also show keys for any 3rd party software that was included with your Sonar purchase (e.g. XLN Addictive Drums 2, Celemony Melodyne 4).

I'm assuming you purchased Sonar through Steam.
In terms of an actual file saved locally that stores reg data, I'm not sure. I still have my
original install and haven't attempted to reinstall on a separate machine. Are you hitting a wall where it asks you to register product key and e-mail when launching for the first time?

This is possibly beyond the scope of your question and kind of an advanced user move but,.. you could try checking the Win Registry using RegEdit on both your old and new machine and see whether there are any differences there. If so, you'd then need to edit in new reg entries to match up with the old install exactly.

I do know that sonar by bandlab should run any old projects flawlessly.

SmacksFrog, thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I've re-installed windows on the old machine so working with the registry is moot. I still have all the old data so I was hoping there was a file somewhere that steam read when it started up. Yeah I purchased it through Steam.

Also, I have the CD key, Steam remembers that for you and pops it up when you start, but the new install asked me to register which is what caught me off guard. Old email so couldn't re-register.

Sounds like I'm out of luck. If anyone knows better please let me know. Trying Tracktion in the meantime. Bandlab sets off my spider sense for some reason, it just looks fishy to me.

Nothing to worry about.

Most Cakewalk users moved over after the Gibson announcement.

Gibson transferred the properties over to Bandlab for on-going developement.

We've already received 4 updates for the new version. You effectively Cakewalk Platinum but without a few of the second party items such as Melodyne.
