Sonar Freezing When Loading Custom FX Chain Preset
So after going through the hassle of installing Sonar X3 on a new computer, trying to get everything to look and work in the exact same way that it used to on my old computer, I got it running quite smoothly. At least, so I think, as I haven't yet recorded anything. It did take some time, but that was mostly because the first time I set up the program was a looooong time ago, so I didn't remember everything.

Well, to the point...

The problem and reason to why I haven't recorded anything yet, is that upon trying to load my FX Chain Preset I made myself, with a few VST's, the application completely freezes. This means that I must navigate through the task manager to exit the application that way, as I can't close the window otherwise.

I was able to load an old, finished, project which contained the FX Chain on my new computer. It worked for some time, but after chaing a few settings (like where the program should search for VST's), it doesn't work anymore. Now I can't load that old project either, without the app freezing.

I have all the VST's loaded and visible in the FX tree, so it is not a problem on that side.

I don't know what is causing it, but as I can't remember my previous settings (I used like 7 different VST's, each with their own settings), it would be a pain to go through all of them to create a new FX Chain preset for my new computer. At least since I know that the preset is working fine on my old computer.

I hope there is a workaround for this, which doesn't include me creating a new FX Chain preset.

If there are any questions, I'm more than happy to answer them as best I can, as I want to get to recording again ASAP!

Thanks in advance!

My theory is the Windows 10 update around Christmas that changed the way timing works.

This impacted a few of our plugins, primarily Rapture Session, Rapture Pro, Rapture Classic (and Le), Dimension Pro/LE, Z3ta+2 and CA-2A. It also impacted other 3rd party plugins as well.

If you're using CA-2A, we just released a standalone version in Steam that all prior X3 CA-2A owners are gifted. Id recommend unchecking the DLC in X3 and install that one specifically.

Z3TA+2 and Rapture Session & Pro have also been updated separately.

The best way I'd troubleshoot this is to try and isolate the plugin right now.

I don't know whether or not I use Rapture or any other plugins, but the Steam library page tells me I only have the MP3 activator DLC activated and installed. Upon pressing the DLC option, on the right hand side of the library page, it takes me to the store front page, but I suppose that is because Sonar X3 is not a purchasable product here anymore, I think.

Anyway, the problem is not that I have too many plugins, but could it be that I don't have any of those plugins listed? They are not required to use the program, right? I mean, the program starts and seems to be running fine so far (well, except the obvious problem I am facing with the FX Chain preset).

Thank you for your answer!

*EDIT* No, I have checked and do not use any other plugins than MP3 Activator, but as they were not required to run the application previously I don't see that this should be the problem.

Well Rapture LE/1.2.2 Dimension Le/Pro are installed in the core installer of X3, not separately as DLC. They could be in the FX Chains though.

I don't think you'd be crashing while missing any. They should just show up faded out/darkened.

Could you share some of these chains so I could try them out?

I tried just importing one of the VSTs on an empty track, without the fx chain and while it did not freeze, there was no sound coming through, when the VST was active. When the VST was bypassed, the sound came through.
I therefore think there might be something wrong with my VSTs. This would, however, probably not be the cause for the program freezing when trying to load them. Or it might be, I don't know.

Here are my presets. The link will be removed within 24 hours but can be reuploaded if need be.

All fx chains have very original names (not) and some are unfinished, but the one I tried to open was the Metal Main preset. Hopefully you get them to work!

Thank you for taking the time to try to resolve the issue!

*EDIT* Link refreshed
**EDIT** Link removed

Have you been able to try my presets out? Hopefully they should be working for you.

I have, but I'm not having crashing unfortunately.

None of the plugins are found on my system though - so It's likely one of the VST's being called and not the FX chain files.

That is very odd that you don't have problems.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, though. So, without downloading all the VST plugins to your computer, you try to import the chain and this does not cause any freezing?

That is, also, very odd. I have tried to add single VSTs to the effects stack (and not using my preset) and so far I don't have any issues with individual VSTs. I have a theory that a specific VST is causing the freeze, but I do not know for certain as I have not yet added every VST used in my preset. I will experiment more tonight and see what happens. If I don't have any issues then I will just have to endure the pain to rebuild my preset from the ground, but otherwise I am unsure how I should progress. Maybe a clean install would help.

I will return with my findings.
