I think it's just a troll attempt since the other red button you find in Ranger HQ actually does blow you up. It probably does absolutely nothing.

I've finished that game and I still don't know. However my epilogue for that region was all perfect.. so whatever it did it did not negatively affect the plot for Hollywood. In fact, I'd venture a guess and say it's a good idea to push it.

Being fortunate enough to have made the acquaintance of the “puppy effect” before finding the computer with the ominous button, I declined.

Wild maybe, but considering the ”puppy effect”, the countdown button in Citadel museum, I maintain that the designers and developers of this great game are not; repeat, to be trusted!!!

it gives you an achievement that claims you are foolish for pushing it.
When you transfer your save file to "wasteland 3" it might be the cause of a zambie appocolypse, or releases an OP robot army that are like the reapers from mass effect.

considering that the button centers around something bad i wouldn't push it because you could always do it later when it is revealed for what it does.

kind of late but button opens up irvene in se corner of map. there is a red button there too but do not know what it does yet

I'm in Irvine now and found the other Ominous Red Button console. Naturally, I pressed it too. :-) Anyone have an idea what the one in Irvine does yet?
