How am I meant to gather 28,000 coin ?
There's something I want to buy from one of the dealers. It costs 28,000 coins or something like that.

How am I supposed to gather that amount ? I've finished the game and almost done Basso's additional missions. I've completed the DLC. I think that by the time I've done everything I'll have 13,000 coin. Had I known how to play going in, I could perhaps have another 5,000. But nowhere near the price of something sold in the game.

Have I missed something I should know on how to play the game ?

1. If you get 100% loot and 100% collectables in the Prologue and all chapters 1 through 6 as well as in all the Client Jobs, all the Basso Jobs, plus the Bank Heist,
2. achieve the max number of Thieving Challenges in all 6 chapters, Client Jobs, & Bank Heist,
3. pick all pockets,
4. find all resources laying around,
5. sell all possible resources you found along the way.
6. find (nearly) all the loot in the City (398),
7. only purchase the wrench, razor and wirecutter,
8. do not purchase any other resources, trinkets, upgrades or Focus,

Do all of that and you'll have 28,000 coin at the end of chapter 6 before starting chapter 7.

9. Complete 100% of all collectibles in chapters 7 and 8 and you'll get another +30,000 coin from it on top of all the other coin collected from what you steal in those chapters

You can be over 58,000 coin from one play through.

Beyond that, you can also replay the missions as many times as you want and get paid again for all of them. The bank alone is over $1000 each time if you know what you're doing.

You basically have infinite coin if you replay missions.

Wow. What a thorough and useful reply. Thank you very much.

TBH, if you play the game as intended, you don't NEED the boosts from trinkets.

Yep. I got to the end (on 'Thief' = Medium difficulty) without problems. I was just wondering why a game would offer something for sale that it wasn't possible to buy. But I am corrected, and it is possible to buy it.

Nope. It's just not practical. I replayed chapters 3, 4 and 6 (hate the insane asylum). I took my time and searched for all the treasure I could find. I did find a couple more collectables but still gathered fewer than 5,000 more GP. I conclude that in real life it takes a huge amount of work to gather 28,000 GP.

I suppose that now I know the levels thoroughly I could try 'ghost' walkthroughs, relying on the extra GP you get. But even that won't give me much. I think I'm done with this game for another 5 years, until I've forgotten how to play it.

I feel like the game should double the money of the mission. You get too little from a long ass mission.

Seriously? It's the best level in the game IMO.

Collecting all collectables also gives you tons of money I believe

And yes. As I discovered and was confirmed in another thread, collecting all the collectables gives you, I think, 20,000 GP. Which means you'll probably have enough to buy this 28,000 GP thing.

In fact, I can't imagine anyone being able to afford it without that. So the game wants you to collect all the collectables (which requires that you finish the game), and then you can buy something that lets you play the game and collect the collectables more easily.

My thoughts exactly. The asylum's level design was a breath of fresh air. Who would've thought that a thief in a haunted building would be such a great combination.

Deadly shadows which already did this.

It's a terrific level. I just don't like going there because I don't like being scared.
I mean the enemies for that area only react to sound so they are easier then regular guards.

And by turning the right valve handle you can disable one entirely.
