Stuck on first puzzle

Man, I am feeling like such an idiot right now, but I can't seem to get past the very first puzzle. I checked the guide and know I'm supposed to melt the ice around the revolt brick with the coffee. I try doing so and Rosa just keeps saying that she doesn't have much coffee left and doesn't want to waste it. I left click without click the coffee first and she says it's just a brick. Right click and she reads it.

Tried using Joey to investigate it thinking maybe he was needed to find out it was hollow, no go.

What in the heck am I missing to get her to use the coffee to melt the ice already?

Send Joey inside the building and onto the staircase. On the right hand side there's some graffiti near the broken staircase, have Joey examine it and you'll see it matches the words outside. Look for the one that has an arrow or ring around it and use the coffee on that word with Rosa outside. You might need to read the note on the desk just inside the building as well, which gives you the clue for the graffiti.

this is the problem with reading walkthroughs, avoid it, in such games certain events happen only if you explore a bit aka exploring here with joey as cattatra mentioned

The point of them is to help when you are stuck and that is what I was. A good walkthrough actually mentions all the steps you need to trigger something, and the one posted on here doesn't mention any of them.

Seems that you need to do that exploring after you find the ghost, not before since I did do it before, then got stuck, game crashed, so I went to get back to the same spot as quickly as possible so I got the same result if I explored before finding the ghost or didn't.

you don't need to read the note, but the word isn't always the same. i've played that part 4 or 5 times and have had 2 different words indicated.
