Add to this hypothetical situation. Let us say the TV works, but the TV studios are no longer broadcasting.
Who do you go to then? Even if the salesman KNEW this would happen, he can't be held at fault because the TV functions.... its the studios that don't.
In this case I imagine you could still bring back the TV within a reasonable amount of time, so long as you haven't trashed it.
In Steams case, if you try to return something, they hold your whole account hostage basically. So it would be like the TV Store saying you can return this, but you can't go anywhere else to buy any other entertainment gear for your living room until we have resolved this issue. Sure you could go somewhere to buy a TV for your bedrom, but we own your living room, so you are SOL... And really that is the danger is owning digital items on steam or any online cloud based mrketplace. If steam shuts down tomorrow, there is no guarentee that you get to keep all your items. For someone like me who has well over $3000 invested in Steam Products, this is kinda scary.
