Should I try this version?
Played demom souls ps3, dark souls 1, then scholar. I found scholar easy and boring overall compared to demon souls and dark souls 1, but I still would like to get all the achievements eventually as I do like certain aspects more than the previous games.

I was unaware that dark souls 2 had two versions, I just assumed scholar was the base game plus dlc. So after some research I found that majority of "team vanilla" prefer this version simply because of less enemies and gank if I'm not mistaken?

I already found Scholar to be a cakewalk. I'm not looking forward to giving this version a shot if the only noticeable difference being less enemies. Is there any other things this version does better than Scholar to warrant a replay or should i just stick with Scholar to try and 100%?

Stick with Scholar. It is the superior version. And even if it wasn't, there's not enough differences to warrant switching half way through.

The biggest difference for me was the online aspect. This version is emptier, and my friend and I have not been invaded once (we are now in Iron Keep). However, servers went completely offline 4 days ago with no updates from Namco.
If you like co-op, then it's another reason to stick with Scholar. But, if you really hate PvP, this version might be a more relaxed experience.

Maybe return to his in a year or two to 100% as well if you love DSII as much as I do.

There are certain parts that are less ganky, but others that I personally think are more ganky or directly harder than Scholar, like the Dragon Shrine. I think both versions are worth trying, enjoyed both

Why not, scholar is painful

I think I'll just stick with the version I have then. Thank you.

If you want my real opinion the two games don't have that much different in terms of game play except that a few items have been adjusted in damage and the fact that there are more upgrades materials thanks to Invisible hollows.

Regarding the enemies the only places where enemies make a huge difference are the forest of fallen giants and the undead crypt.
So yeah you don't need to play this version for any reason unless you want to waist money...

Because scholar is more of a remake that people give it credit for, rather than anything.

And sorry for the joke reply :)

Not really a waste tbh, I have all the DLCs and I finally get to play this game with higher frames and graphics after dealing with the 360 version ages ago.

No shortcut in No Man's Wharf is kinda rough tho.

There is that bad shortcut, trough the building with all the varangians and Lucatielle's summon sign

Not that shortcut, the one on the docks with the drawbridge you kick down. That's just rubble in this version.

I forgot to mention, this version is easier to 100% than Scholar, because DLC spells are not mandatory for the achievements to unlock

I prefer this to SotFS. The enemy replacements are just too ganky in Scholar. It makes Iron Keep especially a pain in the balls.

Not to me. I found scholar the easiest. How about reading what I wrote next time?

There is no way DS2 is easier then DS...everyone complains DS2 has way too many enemies...and in DS you get 1-3 max at a time..too damn easy..esp as a mage, your trolling.

Too bad. I found it easier. I don't care if the whole world found demon souls easier, I didn't. Maybe it's because I played them in order and got used to the combat. And I don't care for magic I play melee in these games. Regardless, I was let down by how easy DS2 Scholar was compared to the other games. Which is why I asked, a month ago mind you thanks for necroing, the difference between the versions. I wasn't going to get this one to try it if it was even easier, or if didn't have a substantial difference in enemy layout.

Maybe take your head out of your ass next time, okay?
