What changes could be made to the game to encourage being inventive with casting?
Most of us, I assume, made a few spells, added more damage as we got into, like explosions, and they got the job done. Maybe you got clever and put the aspect on a delay so you could shoot through object. But over all? Most of my cleverness came *after* the end, and then I couldn't use/test it against the boss.

Firstly, I think a bigger view would help a lot, as it is the enemies are fast and so you are best off firing wildly before you can see them.

Secondly, getting more of our options earlier.

Then, maybe a greater variety of enemies. Ones with obvious weakpoints that could benefit from enemy angle and wait. Or weak not too fast swarms that would benefit from that spell in the book that dropped fire balls.

I agree. I enjoyed making spells post-game and testing them on enemies in each area, but a boss rush mode or general roguelike mode after beating the game would have made it better.

See games like Gal Guardians: Demon Purge, Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge and I would argue all modern games of retro genres with a limited game length can benefit from having rush or rogue modes included.
