I mean, it could be worse. It's a high quality visual novel, and I see why people like it, but I frankly have to pretend this game doesn't exist in order to maintain my fondness of the first one. This is gonna be long, and a bit harsh, but here's why.

Brahve is not the same person. That sexy, suave, intriguing gentleman that Danya (and I) fell in love with from the first game, isn't here.

Cayama route? DEPRESSING. Unbearably so. I enjoyed the first sex scene, then it was downhill from there. For me, it is an exceedingly dissatisfying turn from what I expected after getting the Cayama Ending in the first game.

Odaria route? Like Danya, my stomach was churning nearly the entire time because I was scared half to death that there was going to be m-preg (despite knowing that there would definitely have been a trigger warning for that). Thankfully, there was not, however they did establish that male odarians lactate. This worry made it difficult for me to enjoy anything in this route.

I also have some personal grievances with Chohra (Brahve's cousin), and Brahve's surprise sexuality reveal. Spoiler alert: writers really want you to know he's not gay. What? Why would this matter if he's in a committed, monogamous relationship with Danya? A little lore here and there is fine, but this is one example of the mish-mash that is the Odaria "plot".

In another review, someone described this game as being written "like a fanfiction", to which I agree. It sucks, because I was actually really excited for it to be released, having held the first game in such high regard.

But... There is ONE scene that I absolutely LOVE. I would have much preferred to have this scene as a $5 DLC for the first game, over Re:Union as a whole. This scene is in the Odaria route, wherein Brahve and Danya go to a secluded hot spring together.

Not recommended. I would just play the first game again instead.
