This is a Japanese game, so it will therefore be in Japanese. In a different country, we speak that country’s language, no? This will enable you to view the game as is and find your own means of translation, such as image translation, in order to navigate yourself through the game. A kind gentleman in the japanese r2beat discord helped me, thought I’d share it here.

1. Download the Japanese language pack in your computer language settings (where you go to add another keyboard language)

2. go to control panel > clock and region > change date time and number format > administrative > change system locale > Japanese (japan) and do NOT tick off “Beta: use Unicode UTF”, then restart computer.
