Quake II: The Reckoning

Quake II: The Reckoning

Input delay and performance issues?
I use Yamagi as my Quake II source port, and I almost instantly noticed a bit of input delay when I try to play this expansion. I went back and forth between Quake II and The Reckoning to see if I wasn't just me. I tested moving around and shooting, and while there is no delay in Quake II, there is in The Reckoning.

Additionally, those new enemies you encounter at the beginning of the game, the ones that leap around, their gibs function weirdly and eventually cause performance issues. Their gibs will seem to get stuck on walls or in midair, constantly spinning around. They never despawn either. I suffer from screen tearing and FPS drops about midway into the first level, probably because of this.

Anyone else having these issues? I use Windows 10 with an AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU, 16 GB of RAM, an ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card.

I just started playing Q2MP1 The Reckoning and I don't have these issues. I use Yamagi 8.0.

First of all, your PC is way more than enough to easily run Q2. The new shiny enenmy gibs stuck in the air and/or in constant rotation used to happen way back in 1998, it can not be reason for performance issues.

Please go to XATRIX folder and check "game.dll". It should come from Yamagi package. The date of the file should be 14th June 2021 (for Yamagi 8.0).

game.dll says November 27, 2020. What do I do about this?

That's from Yamagi 7.45 which also should work no problem.

Maybe try updating to Yamagi 8.00 ?

Neither MP1 nor MP2 should have those issues you are having... they are basically just official "mods" for Quake 2, so they should run and work just as fine as the base game...

I replaced the game.dll files for The Reckoning and Ground Zero from 7.45 with the ones from yamagi 8.00, and now they're working flawlessly. The input delay is gone and the performance issues are no more. Thanks for your help.
