The most logical explanation would be that the parents are still on their weekend anniversary and just haven't returned yet, whilst Katie gets back from her holiday before her parents get back from theirs, meaning Katie discovers her sister is missing, which would explain why we aren't shown a reaction from the parents.

was I the only one who found the key to the attic within 30 seconds of getting into the house? I have no idea what was going on in this game. I found the picture of the girl in the solders uniform and put it down and it flew behind the sideboard where I could not get it back? was this intentional? <20 mins of game play, and I have no idea whats going on.

I got the bulk of the story in my playthough. (little under 2 hours)... its a decent game. but NOT worth 20 euro.

I think they wanted us to read the notes about the parents little trip camping in the gorge then listen to the TV giving out the storm warning and assume the worst. Maybe?

First coming into the house and hearing the storm warning, I assumed that was where everyone was, I think it's a red herring though. Looking at the calender you can see they marked out their "anniversary trip" until the day after you arrive. Seems they assumed Sam would be there to receive you, or they left before knowing when you would come in to town. Confirmation is found in the parents' room (bathroom maybe?) on a pamphlet for the couple's retreat showing they booked the week.

@long life - If interested you should really play the game over and take your time looking at everything you can, don't go upstairs until you explored the whole first floor. The story actually unfolds slowly as you find pieces of "evidence" all over. Even taking it slow the game will only last 3 hours, maybe.
