Different level structure in VR and the pancake version? (The Forges -> Level 1)
I just played the first level of "The Forges" and was wondering why I see a fortress at the beginning that I can't get into until the end. So I watched several videos where all the secrets are shown and the level is played through.
I noticed that a large part of the first level is missing in the VR version. After a few minutes there is a large lake that you have to swim through and then run up. At the top in the VR version is a pink teleport that teleports you to a small flying fortress, where you spend a minute to get the silver key. In the pancake version, there is no teleport there, but you are sucked up by an air current at the top of the lake into a huge fortress, where you have to play for about 10 minutes or more.

I dunno maybe. They said it was supposed to be full featured and not missing any content and the game had some fairly wide open spaces for sure.

There are a few changes to accommodate VR. Being moved by air currents is defintely a no go in VR. So I can see why it would make the cut. This is a VR port made by a fan. Not the devs, so redoing that level to include the extra section without clipping just wouldn't be something on the to-do list.

That sucks, I hoped this was an uncompromised adaptation.

That's nonsense. They should have turned this into an option.

It's kind-of disappointing to see yet another VR port being cut down because devs think we shouldn't get the full experience because "too hard" or because "motion sickness".

Yeah, it's really disappointing for people like me who prefer to disable every "comfort" feature and who don't experience VR motion sickness in even the most extreme scenarios.

Then there's us, who get motion sickness. It's a hard call for the dev. Making it optional is ideal but perhaps that would have been too much work.

yeah game should have an option for people that have vr legs

I have always been baffled by the limitations imposed upon VR titles for the sake of people VR isn't meant for. It's so backwards, for instance, when teleport is the only movement option in a game with plenty of space and geometry to traverse. How about snap-turn with not smooth turn option? I can respect an artist's prerogative in almost any anything but scoff at decisions made that attempt to provide comfort at the expense of the fully capable enthusiasts.

I can't think of a reason that a player with full VR-legs should have some of their features removed because a VR-cripple might not enjoy those features. :astral:

This. I know it takes some getting used to in order to overcome unexpected movement in games, but nearing the end of the game, it becomes quite a teleport-fest with no way of enabling the removed features and geometry.

Worse still, VR is a small niche with many enthusiasts, so I'd imagine most players could handle those segments without any issues.
