Wonderful Aesthetic, Fluid Gameplay, Too Strict on Execution
I wanna start with the positives. The game feels really fluid (heh cause its paint) and handles really well. I like the aesthetic of the whole demo and see lots of ways to expand the premise. It feels a lot like other platforms but feels better then most (on part with Celeste and Hollow Knight)

Now the critics: It might be because this way a demo, but I got stuck for a very long time on the final Heart Piece area. There are very few checkpoints in that area, and it requires exact timing on many of the jumps (the first pinwheel platform that's inside of corruption I got killed in more then once because the corruption came back before the pinwheel cycled up). Not suitable for first level platforming.

In general I think the teaching tools of this game are somewhat lacking, its not always clear what your supposed to do for some of the platforming. I think starting with the dash might be a mistake, as I don't even really have time to get used with the jump before I'm asked to Jump-Stab-Dash-Jump-Jump-Stab-Jump (and on many of these there is no room for pausing or flexibility in what order you have to do the sequences, basically making it more memory then skill).

Most of my criticisms boil down to "requires too much precision for this early in the game". But again its a demo, so this might have been limit testing

The only out and about unintuitive thing was that my basic attack doesn't have an up/down variant, but my stab does. I very much feel that the basic melee should be able to input up/down.

Thank you for playing and your feedback! :) worry not and be assured the teaching pacing in the final game of learning how to jump then to dash then to fight etc before gaining more abilities is of course dramatically different and optimized in the final game :) this is just for demo purposes!

I hope you don't plan of holding the double jump back for too long. A lot of the frustration comes from not having enough tools to correct yourself mid air. The paint pogo (down) move also feels really bad to use because you just drop onto the enemy and take damage. It should give you airtime when hitting enemies or corruption.
I'm not usually into metroidvania or platformers, but I had a blast with this demo. It just clicked for me. Everything people are saying that's good about it — I totally agree. Even though I had some "skill issue" moments, the game never felt frustrating, which is rare for me in this genre. A double jump would definitely make things easier for folks like me, though!

Anyway, huge congrats to the devs. You've made something really cool here. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to the full release!

there will be a seperate true pogo ability in the game and another aerial control ability BESIDES even a classic double jump haha! :)
My biggest issue was your basic attack not being directional. The paint stab is cool and nice that its directional but it has a lunge associated with it.
Having enemies that move across all of the X-Y axis without being able to slash up or down was immensely frustrating for this sort of game.
Its like if Samus couldn't aim up in Metroid but you had to kill ceiling enemies. The timing on the Corruption Respawn felt maybe 1-2 seconds to short, it felt frantic to be able to remove them and still have enough time to land on a platform to be able to jump again.

I also love the art and style of the game and appreciate having another solid/polished-ish game in this genre. Keep up the good work! Fine tune in those details and its an immediate buy for me!
