Attention: Crash on Startup in v2.0.8+ [Updated April-2022]
Hello Folks,

Update 2022-04-12
Hi Guys, just dropping an update in here that our data collection exercise and investigation into the reports of those affected has yielded some results, with a mixed outcome.

Essentially the issue appears to be some incompatibility between the nvidia driver and Unity 5.6.7's Direct3D 11 renderer. When Unity tries to create the GFX device it crashes out unceremoniously. Upon investigation we found similar issues reported by other Unity games caused by a software conflict with Citrix software. Several affected users report this is indeed the cause.

We have some suggestions if you're suffering from this issue and we've provided an update to our Knowledgebase article[support.brightrockgames.com] but to summarise our recommended steps in order of least significant to most:

  1. Update your graphics drivers
  2. Check to see if you have Citrix Workspace installed, this has a known compatibility issue with older versions of Unity[support.paradoxplaza.com]
  3. Disable any software that interfaces with your display adapter, overlays, screenshare tools etc.
  4. Disable all other software and run only the bare minimum for the game. I.e. Safe mode w/ display driver
  5. Try one of our workarounds: run the game in D3D9 mode or roll back to Patch 2.0.7

Original Post

We recently rolled out the 2.0.8 Patch to fix a significant crash on start-up issue that affected Intel CPUs of 10th generation and later. This crash presented with the splash screen and then no other messages.

We believe that since this update some users are experience a new start-up crash following the splash screen which does present with a crash log being generated.

We're currently gathering data from affected users and would like to advise anyone affected to do the following:

  1. Create a backup of your crash report folder or output.log if there is no crash report folder. where to find them[support.brightrockgames.com]
  2. Attempt to roll the game's version back to 2.0.7 via the betas feature. Right click the game in steam library, open properties and select betas, from the dropdown list select "PreviousBuild (2.0.7)"
  3. After the game updates attempt to launch. If this works great, please include those details in your report.
  4. Navigate to our support site[support.brightrockgames.com] known as userecho.
  5. Upload your crash report files (if one was generated) or output log as detailed here[support.brightrockgames.com] make sure to include a Dxdiag or details of your system specs as well
  6. Include a description of the crash and what steps you took including whether rolling back the game version worked or not.

Thanks,

Lee
