I think they said previously it doesn't carry over as the demo is a standalone.

Sadly, the save files won't carry to the full version.

I want to start afresh. That’s the whole point of buying a new game.

Then select 'new game' and not 'load save'. This isn't an either-or proposition. I mean, it is, because the saves aren't compatible, but it shouldn't have to be one.

Considering it appears you can continually play and accumulate resources in the prologue, I don't agree with that progress should carry over.

As a rule, prologues and full releases don't share the same save files to prevent bugs and crashes. Games like to throw themselves into oblivion if you try to load a save file from a different game build. :P
If you're brave enough, you can try to copy the prologue save file to the full game once it's released, but I don't think it'll work as intended. You've been warned. ^^"

That's not what i meant, I meant that *in general*, 'starting fresh' and 'continuing an existing save' doesn't have to be an either/or thing, where the decision is made for you. I know it doesn't work this time.

Understood, yes, it does not have to be an either / or proposition.

New game, full game, so we all start square,just some of us will have a much better idea than total newbies.
