What is happening?

So, its been a minute, first off, HAPPY 2024!

Now, obviously there is a whale in the room here, what happened?
Well, its a mix of burnout, and life.

Burnout is deadly, and i know it too well. Last time i worked on this game was early December.
Not only this, but a lot is happening in my life right now, that's more important than re-making this game is! Such as, my graduation which is this year, applying to post-secondary, and getting a job.

Many things have taken my time, but mostly burnout effected me.

There is plans to resume this game, but please remember i'm just a single dev.
Im also working on a much more popular game called SCP:Facility, which you can also find on steam.
This game has much more popularity and i've been working on it with a developer team.
My time is very small, and i want to leave time for family and friends.

For now, and until i have more time and motivation, I am pausing development on this game.
I understand if some of you are upset, however please respect the fact that I'm just a single guy, there's no team working on this game, its just me. Other games i have teams for now, I've learnt my mistake of trying solo dev, it is not easy.

This game will be paused for awhile until i can dedicate proper time to it. Which may be awhile.

Im sorry i havent told you all sooner, but I hope you understand. Much love to you all for the support of this game, it being me and my friends firsts (now just me).

I appreciate everything.

And to the students within Winnipeg that have taken note of this studio, and that have supported it, researched it, and more, thank you.
Because it means more than you all know. I appreciate it, and I hope you as a student find your way in game development as i did.

I was also interviewed by a student for my game development work, i was also interviewed by my local press. Its been amazing, and i couldn't've have asked for a better community around this studio and game. Thank you ALL so MUCH.

I cannot thank you all enough, games will continue to be made, but also note, at the same time, my life is being made.

I PROMISE this game will be fully released one day.

October Progress Report

This is a report on the progress made in October, and although not much I have great reason to why.

So, first off, let me show off this new map. There are features for each room in the top right that I don't feel are good enough to show you yet, but I'm sure next month ill have it ready.
MANY more gameplay aspects are planned, including the ability to.... MOVE. This game is gonna get a LOT harder let me say that now.

Below are some block-outs of this new map, this is the final block-out.

So why has there not been any more progress?! Well its because I'm doing business with a man who goes online as AshDubh. Some of you may know him from stampylongnose, or iballisticsquid.
Point is I've been busy with that and working with him on his upcoming Minecraft SMP, in which I am hosting. Along with future servers he plans to have.

Its also good to let you all know in November & December don't expect much either, as I myself am actually in the said SMP, and would like to keep up to date with it. This does not mean there wont be any progress, it just means its not going to be like "oh here's a prototype" by then end of November. chances are the EARLY prototype will be out late January 2024 with a full release somewhere from May-July.

2.6.1 | New Graphics GUI + NEWS

The update for 2.6.1 has been released. Graphics options can now be separately changed in the main menu.

Why Did this Take So Long?

Let me explain why this took so long,
Saving.

Thats why.

The game has something internally called Saveables. I created Saveables.
Basically they are an easy way to write data to the save file.
Unfortunately for me I dont know how it works anymore, and i have no clue what does what
Because my genius thought it would be fun to not describe anything within the Core. Which is where Saveables are programmed. The core is a 4000+ line script that is essentially the core of the game.

I forgot how many things in the game work due to rushed variable names and no comments.\
So saving no longer works. I destroyed it (it may still somewhat work sometimes)

Most of you who have played this game before will now see a "Saving Failures" button in the main menu.
This button will show data in the save file that wasn't loaded. Basically old Saveables that no longer exists in-game (removed feature, etc)

Whats Next Then?

A whole re-write of all the games scripts.

This isn't easy, but with the new game mechanic you all voted on its best if i just re do the programming in the game. It allows me to fix all the bugs and make everything actually readable.

No other changes then a complete re-programming of all the scripts.

First off yall are amazing, 26K downloads is INSANE!!!

So. It will seem that we are introducing a new monster! This new monster update will be huge, and will most likely take place during night 2 > night 5. Night 2 therefore is planned to release just before 2024.
(gotta remember im a student, time isn't my friend so this is a lot for me to work on, if anything i might have it out and done sooner than 2024)

Again, new graphics options and such will be out by tonight or early tomorrow!

Hey, update was supposed to be today, however i cant finish it in time, im about 60% there.
I have been busy the past week with school starting and such, however i have been working on it.
Now here's where I would end it, but i also said id host the new game mechanic poll today. and I am.

Where I've Been

Short story, I've been out enjoying my life and making music.
However now that summer has practically ended, I think it's time I schedule an update.
September 12th will overhaul graphics options, and is when we will vote in new game mechanics.

I know, it's VERY irresponsible of me to just leave without notice for such a long time, and I'm sorry. I plan to have a good working schedule for prioritys soon.

New Roadmap & Timeline

VPB is an abbreviation for Version Beta (Pre) Meaning Pre Beta Version.

V2.5.1

Small patches.
Fixed slow game movement & camera speed, and other speeds.
Fixed credits scene randomly not loading. This was caused from new updates to the config file.

Next update I'm overhauling the graphics options so they are fully customizable!

Build Error Found.

The reason we had build failures was because my server drive we use to store our builds on
(Exodius@GammaDrive)
Has failed.
The server is fine. Our other 4 8tb HDDs are also fine.
However it seems that our Gamma drive, which is based upon an SSD, has completely died.

Last night when I was trying to build the game, I noticed that it didn't completely fail the build.
Instead it only built about 80% of the required files.
Then today, I try and use software stored on the Gamma drive, and the software doesn't launch.
Next thing you know I look at the drive and almost every single file is empty, which they should NOT be.
I hard reset the server, once its back online, Gamma is completely dead.

The drive was slowly and exponentially killing itself, I should've noticed the second the build generated only 80% of the files, if there was a fatal build error, it wouldn't have generated any files at all.

NOTE: The source of smogs is stored under version control, so the game has not been lost in this.

This drive not only stored builds for the game, it stored all my personal music folders.
I mention this, because on this drive in those folders, was the raw .flp's for all smogs music.
(.flp is my music software save file)
All source smogs music is gone.
Luckily I kept the smogs assets (logos and steam images etc) all on my internal HDD.

Now I don't want to go too far off track here, but I kept some of the sources to other things on the Gamma drive.
This includes the FRgames logo, Togi Studios logo, and all trailers and videos about the game.
Personally, I kept all my most important data on Gamma, including the source code to some of my applications, all my videos, all my photos, all my logos, and so so much more. All of this is gone.

Id like to take time off to try and figure this out, and evaluate my options, however I'm not going to.
By the time this reaches your library you will all most likely have the 2.5.1 update, which fixes the delta time bug.
The game will continue to be updated as normal. Instead of making a new project, I will re-organize the current source.

RIP Exodius Gamma Drive.
