Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 3 - Game of the Year Edition

[SOLVED] Cannot get past the launcher
SOLUTION:
I was able to solve this problem by changing location of My Documents folder to a default one (it was in OneDrive section before). I have a suspicion that I was deleting ini files in the wrong Documents folder, so before trying what I did, try deleting them in both, OneDrive and Non-OneDrive folders.

ORIGINAL POST:
Nothing happens after I click "Play" in the launcher. I was able to run this game before multiple times using different tricks and I think I even run it after the latest patch (not 100% sure). Things I've tried now:
  • Setting High Performance in graphics settings
  • Running as admin
  • Intel Grahics bypass
  • Anniversary patcher
  • Running in a windowed mode
  • Deleting ini files
  • Clean install
  • Updating the drivers

Does anyone have more suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Also tried running it via FOSE - didn't help.

Can you please elaborate? I do not have OneDrive but I might wanna try this too. On another topic I read that wiping the FO3 stuff from My Documents is a good idea, but I had nothing there, I just installed the game.

The path to the Documents folder should be a default one. In my case it was C:\Users\USER_NAME\Documents while my Documents folder was actually in C:\Users\USER_NAME\OneDrive\Documents. There was an option of moving a folder via its properties (Documents -> Properties -> Location -> Default) that didn't work for me so I had to use a solution from here - https://answers.microsoft.com/ru-ru/windows/forum/all/windows-10/b52020c4-9870-4fab-93b9-3d122de443d1.

I don't know if this will help anyone, but I changed the mode to Windowed, set the aspect ratio to 16:9, the resolution to 1920x1080 (my monitor resolution), and set the screen effects to None. Once I did that last one, it booted up as normal. Hope it helps

this solution helps those whose problem is caused by video driver incompatibility with steam overlay
(alternative is to turn off the overlay for game, but then the screenshots will be broken since Bethesda uploaded a cracked pirated version on Steam lol)

I deleted ini files and baked files from my C:\Users\[USERNAME]\OneDrive\Documents\My Games\Fallout3 directory. Fired right up after choosing settings again.

You, Sir, are a gentlemen and a scholar. Tried literally everything else - and this sorted it instantly. (aside - where were you about 80 google searches ago?!)

i noticed it about 2 years ago in all f3 and nv installs, its also does this on linux idk why cause its running older win emulator or smth, launcher crashing. idk what can be done there. also why we should not trust sequels, games that came out like almost 20 years ago still broke, how easy can it be to fix this? like literally a week of programmers fixing some ini files in notepad.

I had nasty problem till I also figured out onedrive was causing it. BGS games end up hooking into the onedrive folder instead of the files in user's C-drive, so if you are like me and edit and mod things then disable onedrive, but make sure to search the steps to do it proper.

Don't mean to necro this post, but if anyone is still having issues with this and get an 0xc00007b error when launching directly from the .exe this tutorial and a little tinkering seemed to have helped for me. https://youtu.be/YMo_X1GKO7g The Microsoft process monitor really helped to figure out what .dll file was messing up the launching process and where.

How can you tell which ones are the ini and baked files?
What fixed it for me after all the other attempts was this: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/17209
