Uh I was actually reading about this kind of bug in UESP Wiki a few days ago. And apparently only people that owned the standard copy of Oblivion and those with the unpatched Shivering Isles DLC gets this bug. But anyone who owns GotY on consoles or on PC platforms like Steam and GoG should have the patch (via Bethesda, not the Unofficial mods) by default.

Could you post a link to the entry, or explain how to find it?

To at least guess what could have happened, more information is required. Like: How are auto- and quicksave related? Was it in Oblivion, or in Shivering Isles or elsewhere? Do you use mods? And if yes, did your mod configuration change between quick- and autosaving?

Generally, auto- and quicksaving is said to be unreliable (I have no personal experience because I always save manually).

A. was in an eylied ruin when it happend, was exiting when crashed and autosave corrupted
B.no mods
C. now some containers have monsters in them as lootable items

Probably another form of save corruption
I agree with theo. Have you tried verifying your Oblivion installation in Steam (fixes missing or corrupted files - unfortunately not savegames)?
And did going back to the quicksave help?
The best method to prevent problens associated with auto- or quicksaving is to not use these two functions. Or live with the risk.

that is like saying the best way to deal with potential catastrophic break failures is not to drive

but i just decided to reamke the itesm i needed, grand souls aren't hard to come by, it was mostly a minor inconvenience to remake all the gear and the potions and a major annoyance to have lost all the neat items i had stashed

Indeed :-)!
Don't forget that I added "Or live with the risk". Seems you decided to live with the risk.
Just don't be surprised or complain should the "catastrophic break failure" happen. :-)
Wait monsters are lootable? Ok then the bug you have is definitely not what UESP Wiki described

monsters are litteraly the loot in some containers, you can drop them from invintory to spawn them, also had one quest NPC show up who you could loot but then not drop because they were a quest item lolz
Whatever you do never ever try to alt+tab/enter or attempt to go to steams community hub. After the game transitions a few doors and menus the game will lag out and crash all because of trying to do something outside of the game.

this is so unrelated to the topic you might as well be posting instructions on how to swap out your break pads on a r34 forum

Or just fully disable autosave, install Better Saves or Simple Saves Plus along with Alt + Tab Crash Fix, and you'll never have to worry about crashing/freezing from those issues. Might also need to install xOBSE (OBSE is obsolete), 4GB RAM Patcher, Oblivion Display Tweaks, Oblivion Stutter Remover or Better Heaps, Unofficial Oblivion Patch, Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch, Unofficial DLC Patch, and Engine Bug Fixes. Wrye Bash or Mod Organizer 2, SkyBSA, and DXVK (I prefer Async variant) are completely optional but highly recommended for stability.
