The Cenozoic Era - Final Version Update & Exciting New Features!

Hello Cenozoic Era community!

The final version of The Cenozoic Era, We’ve been working hard to bring you a truly immersive experience, with plenty of features and gameplay. This update brings the final version of the game to a close and what to expect on release.

Release is planned to come out around the 10th-15th of February

The Animal Hub: A New Showcase for Your Rare Creatures
We’re renaming the Marketplace to the Animal Hub, and it’s going to be your go-to destination for everything related to highly bred, rare animals! In addition to showcasing these creatures, you’ll now have the ability to transfer animals to different servers or even move them to the Event Server, we've decided to remove the sell option for animals.

The Event Server will allow you to battle your animals without the risk of permanent loss. Anyone can connect to the Event Server, and spectators will have a special camera to watch the action unfold. And if your animal wins, you’ll have a chance to earn free DLCs as rewards. There’s no better way to show off your breeding skills and fight for some epic prizes!

Play Style Choice: Tailor Your Experience
To ensure everyone can find a server that suits their preferences, we’ve set in place the Play Style Choice feature. Now you can select servers based on your preferred style of gameplay, whether that’s pure realism or something a bit more flexible with skin creation. Servers will be able to fine-tune settings to match any play style you want, making your experience unique and customizable.

Dynamic Seasons
Experience the full dynamic season system, where every in-game year brings new challenges & opportunities, this feature is designed to bring more challenge to your gameplay and immerse yourself in a ever changing landscape, from food source impacts and adaptions, to freezing to death, this system will challenge your abilities to survive.

Breeding and mutations
This system is designed to enhance your gameplay and forge the best of the best animal stats. If a animal is a newborn and was mutated you will see the mutation put into random stats, however, you wont know the animals full mutation until it reaches about 75% in growth size.

As well as breeding mutations we also have a new challenge aimed at breeding, animals can have a chance to birth several babies at a time and on the same note can also suffer loss of a baby before it is born, resulting in a failed pregnancy. During birth your animal has a possibility of death during delivery (This feature is only for realism servers)

Two Maps, Bigger and Better Gameplay
We’re adding two maps to the game:

- North American Themed Map: A vast, expansive environment filled with large mountains and vast valleys with plenty of opportunities for adventure.
- North American Island Map: A smaller, more compact version designed for lower-end PC support and close-quarters gameplay.

These two maps will cater to different playstyles, ensuring that everyone can enjoy The Cenozoic Era no matter their hardware or preference.

Coin System & Community Servers
As we've talked about before, the Integrated Coin System designed specifically for community servers. The Coin System will allow players to earn free growths without needing admin intervention, making the experience more accessible for everyone. But, please note that animals grown using this system will not be eligible for upload to the Animal Hub, and sandbox animals or animals with grow commands also won’t be uploadable.

Animal deaths
For those wondering about animal death, keep in mind that any animal that dies (for any reason) will have that death permanently recorded in the save file. You’ll be able to see how many times it’s died when browsing the Animal Hub. Additionally, you can see how many events it won as well. Animals that have died will not be allowed to participate in any events so please use caution before playing in any server with your rare animal. (The event server is excluded from this, if an animal dies during an event it does not count against it)

Can I recover my animal if I was banned?
Yes, you can log into a server you were banned from and export your animal to the animal hub. But you will be kicked if you try to play while banned. You can also export a dead animal to the hub and put in a claim for recovery (This is put in place in case a admin or server owner decides to slay your animal for no reason, or if, you lost your animal and cant get in contact with a server owner to have it recovered) we recommend to always export your animal to the hub atleast once, this ensures there is a backup of it stored on our servers so it can be restored if it meets eligibility.

Admin Commands: More Tools for Your Servers
We’ve also added a bunch of new admin commands to make managing servers more fun and interactive. One of the standout features is the Jailed Command – yes, your animals can now be jailed for a certain amount of time in an actual jail cell! This new mechanic is a fun alternative to the regular kick and adds a little more spice to managing unruly players, players who love to troll will also love this, its just fun.

Additionally, we’ve added a server rules board where your jailed animal can easily view all the server rules, and now jailed creatures will be required to accept an onscreen message confirming that they’ve read and understood them before they can be released.

All of your staff members, their colors and permissions can be adjusted within the command panel (Only accessible by staff with the server management permission/owner) You can also use the new role system for dedicated players on your server, this system currently has Supporter and Vip role, but we plan to expand it later on. Both of those new roles can be colored as well. The best part of this system is it allows server owners or server managers the ability to remove and add staff without having to run a server restart, same for any role color changes.

We've also added a tag system, next to a players username as a rank assigned to them (Owner, Senior Admin, Admin, Moderator, Vip & Supporter) Tag will look as such: [Admin] Username

Transfer Your Saved Animals Between Servers: Ever wanted to take your favorite creations from one server and bring them to another? Now you can! The TCE Marketplace allows you to move your beloved animals between servers with ease, so you can continue your adventure wherever you choose.

List Your Animals for Sale: Have a standout animal you're proud of? You can now list it in the TCE Marketplace and make it available for other players to purchase! It’s a great way to showcase your creations.

Browse and Buy from Other Players: The TCE Marketplace is more than just a marketplace—it's a vibrant community-driven hub where you can discover and purchase animals created by other players. Whether you’re looking for a rare species or a one-of-a-kind creation, you’ll find plenty to explore.

We’re excited to announce a massive new update for The Cenozoic Era, bringing enhanced realism and even more customization options to your prehistoric adventures!

Here’s what’s new in this update:

3D Fur & Dynamic Weather Effects Your animals are now more lifelike than ever, thanks to the introduction of 3D fur! Each creature will now have fur that reacts to the environment in a truly dynamic way. From the gentle sway of fur in the wind to its soaking wet appearance after a downpour, the attention to detail will make your animal companions feel even more real.

But that’s not all—dynamic weather effects mean that the environment will change around you in new, immersive ways. Be prepared for sudden storms, blizzards, or intense heat, each of which will affect your animals and the world around you.

Dirt Build-Up and Animal Care With the new weather system comes a challenge: dirt! Your animals’ coats will naturally build up dirt and grime as they roam through the world, leading to discomfort over time. If you want to keep your animals healthy and happy, be sure to wash them when their coats get too dirty. Maintaining your animals is now an essential part of the game—neglect their grooming, and you may face consequences!

New Play Style System
We’ve also introduced a new Play Style system that lets servers customize their gameplay experience! Server admins can now enable or disable key features like DLC color packs, skin customization, and skill trees. This gives you more flexibility and control over your experience, whether you’re seeking a more traditional or unique playthrough. Play your way, and make the Cenozoic Era world your own!

Where can this panel be found?
This panel can found in the browser box, simply select a server, click Server Information and you can see all the server configuration without joining and from there you can decide if the server fits your playstyle and if so, enjoy!

Mutation System: In the Cenozoic Era, animals can now undergo mutations that affect their skill tree. These mutations are rare and have a 10% chance to occur when breeding two animals that possess no upgraded stats.

Skill Tree Points: Each animal has a skill tree capped at 25 points, representing their base abilities. Mutations, however, allow for an extension beyond the base 25 points, pushing the total skill tree points up to a maximum of 40.

Breeding for Mutations: To breed for higher stats and potential mutations, the parents must have no upgraded stats, only mutated stats. This ensures that the mutation system is not diluted by pre-existing upgrades and allows for the true power of the mutation to emerge.


Fortitude Stat: Fortitude is not directly upgradable through the skill tree. However, it can be passed down or improved through breeding, making it a highly valuable trait in combat and survival scenarios.

Breeding for Fortitude: While breeding for higher fortitude does not directly add points to the stat, parents with high fortitude can pass down their resilience, slowly improving the offspring’s ability to withstand environmental challenges and combat scenarios.


Rare Mutation Tag: When a player successfully mutates an animal (after reaching the full skill tree of 40 points), the animal will receive a special "Rare" tag in the player list. This indicates that the animal is not only genetically exceptional but has been bred through a unique mutation process, distinguishing it from regular animals.

Visibility and Prestige: Rare animals are highly coveted, and their rarity can be used for trade, breeding projects, or as a symbol of achievement. The "Rare" tag makes these animals stand out in the world.


Mutation Odds: The chance of a mutation occurring when breeding is fixed at 10%. The exact nature of the mutation (which stat or ability it affects) is random, leading to a variety of potential outcomes. Players will need to engage in careful breeding strategies and patience to unlock truly powerful creatures.

Multiple Mutations: While the chance of a mutation occurring is low, an animal can have multiple mutations that affect different stats, providing opportunities for players to create creatures with powerful combinations of traits.


Breeding for Specific Traits: Players can focus their breeding efforts on specific stats such as speed, strength, health, stamina etc. by ensuring that their animals have mutations in those areas. This creates a strategic layer to the breeding system where players can aim for very specific outcomes, though the random nature of mutations means that perfect results aren’t guaranteed.

Stat Inheritance: When breeding, the offspring’s stats will be a mix of both parents’ mutated stats, with the possibility of new mutations being introduced. However, for optimal outcomes, players should aim for animals that don’t have upgraded stats, as these would interfere with the mutation chances.


Breeding Competitions: Special in-game events or competitions could be held where players breed their Rare animals and enter them into tournaments based on the mutated traits they possess. This could provide rewards and recognition for players who master the mutation system.


There still may be more planned features for the stats and mutation system, but this is the first iteration of this new game changing feature.

We're looking for dedicated playtesters to help us ensure the best experience for our upcoming release!

What we're testing:

Performance Testing: Help us optimize the game by providing feedback on performance, frame rates, and any stuttering issues you might encounter.

Mouse Look Bug: We're currently fixing a bug affecting mouse movement. If you’ve experienced inoperable camera movement, your input will be crucial to resolve it.

General Game testing: We are looking for general player testers to test out features, this does not require certain hardware or a certain bug they encountered previously when the recode was playable.

Play and provide feedback before anyone else!
We are looking for testers who have time to jump into game and test features and patches, testers who fail to do game testing within a few days of a patch being released will be removed from the role and access will be terminated. Below goes over more details on applying and other factors we are looking for.

Performance test
We are looking for a range of lower end hardware, if you have a higher end pc, you may still submit to help test the new map. Attach a list of your hardware specs in the email.

Mouse bug test
This is for users in the past who had troubles moving their camera around, the game was unplayable for those who suffered from it.

General testing
This is for users who wish to help test the recode further and make sure it is released in the most stable version

Make sure you are in our Discord, if not, please click here[discord.gg] to join. Please attach your discord name in the email. Emails that fail to have a discord name attached will be automatically rejected.

Also make sure to attach your Steam ID in the email, below is a short guide to locating your steam ID

Testing is planned to start Mid to late January - 15th to 25th | Testing is set to end upon the games readiness. If accepted as a play tester you will be assigned a Discord role and contacted within the discord.


Phase 1 of the recode test will be on a controlled development map ensuring features and playability are working as intended.

Phase 2 of the recode will be on the new map, lower end hardware testers will have access to the second version of this map to ensure it operates smoothly on their PC.

Phase 3 of the recode may have new features that have not been announced yet, these features may impact gameplay and are not confirmed to be in the final release.

Phase 4 of the recode will be finalizing bug reports and ensuring all features are working as intended

Phase 5 access will be terminated and the game will be in it's deployment stage soon to be released

You can find your Steam ID several ways, one way is to open the Steam Client and head to your profile, there at the top of the screen (Red circle) you will see a URL, at the end of the URL you will find a 16 digit ID, copy and paste that into the email, if, in my case, you see text instead (Mine says "TheCenozoicEra") you can copy the entire link and use https://www.steamidfinder.com to extract the 16 digit code
Other wise you can load up the game and join a random server, press Tab and you will see on the far right side your steam ID in the player menu.

Full Dynamic Season System

New Skin Colors and Skin DLCs
In response to your requests, we're introducing new skin colors and exciting Skin DLCs to further personalize your character! In this update the coin system will be removed from the official Discord and be no longer eligible, however, players with left over coins can still spend them. Coins will be dedicated ONLY to community servers to help support their server, Official servers will not be eligible for coins and no coin system will be in place.

Once the update is released server owners will have the ability to enable/disable passive coins (Coins earned over X amount of time a player stays connected to the server, Idling in the character selection screen will not count and the system will not issue any coins to you) Admins can also issue coins within the Admin panel to players who buy or earn them within their discord.

Questing system changes:
New quests to encourage exploration, hunting, births & time in game
Questing system will give players tokens which can be exchanged for a free grow (Automatic, no admin needed)

For now we have just a time version of the token system, you will get 1 token every hour

For every 10 tokens a player can redeem a free grow. Note: (Coins cannot be used between different servers, They cannot be redeemed in Discord, they can only be redeemed in-game via the character selection menu)

We are currently hosting events on our Discord, we give players coins in exchange that they can cash in for free grows. We plan to have many events and mini games for players to enjoy their time in game and earn free grows!

We plan to have DLC give aways as well and more!
