Steam Linux on old Radeon Driver
Hello,

i have a Del inspirion 5520 ubuntu eddition laptop with dual graphics integrated Intel GPU and discreet AMD Radeon 7670M GPU.
So as the AMD GPU is terascale 2 it is not compatible with amdgpu drivers only with the radeon one.
Because of that i can't launch steam for linux with AMD GPU due to lack of Vulkan support.
Is there a way to launch steam without vulkan?
Even SteamLink is not possible because the games which run on the Intel iGPU are weary laggy :(

afaik Steam client doesn't even use vulkan

The steam Launcher is showing up in the taskbar but the app window is not apearing

Vulkan absence is not related, look a problem somewhere else

Do not use Snap package, Valve discourage usage of it. Install normal .deb package instead

steam itself does not need vulkan, but proton needs it for running dx11 and dx12 games

or dx8/9/10 you can ask it to use WineD3D (translates DX8/9/10 to OpenGL) instead of DXVK (DX8/9/10/11 to Vulkan), or VKD3D (DX12 to Vulkan)... but it's slower and buggier

pps:
on GCN 1.0 and 1.1 cards you'll be using the legacy opensource AMD gpu driver "radeon" (no vulkan) but you can enable experimental support for those cards in the current opensource AMD gpu driver "amdgpu" (has vulkan for those cards, albeit iirc still incomplete)

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
to have proton use OpenGL instead of Vulkan

7670M isn't that powerful tho, so performance probably won't be good except in old games
