Steam for Linux

Redout Enhanced Edition not starting (solved...?)
(I'm using the older vredition built of the game) Haven't been playing for a while, but when I wanted to play yesterday evening, the game just refused to start. No error messages or the like, the play button just went back from blue (starting) to green and nothing happened. I tried verifying, deleting caches, reinstalling the game, different versions of Proton. I even backport-updated the kernel, just to see whether that would make a difference, but no.

It was running perfectly fine just a couple of weeks ago. The only difference I can think of would be the recent updates to Steam, but other games work fine (native and Proton).

My system is basically a standard Debian 11 (now with kernel 6.1 backport), Intel i5, AMD RX580, 12GB RAM, game is installed on an Samsung 870 EVO 500GB SSD.

Is there a way to look at any logs, to actually see what is going on?

Thanks in advance!

Edit 1: Forgot to mention that I am using mangohud and gamemoderun, but neither of those is the issue

Edit 2: Found PROTON_LOG=1, but no idea what to do with the output, everything looks fine...?

Update:

First, I installed the gog version (which for all intents and purposes is identical to the vredition built of the game) via lutris and everything worked perfectly fine, even a tiny bit more performant than the steam version.

Just for fun, today I reinstalled the steam version, and now it just works. I have no clue whats going on or what the problem was in the first place. I did however notice that, in comparison to the gog release, my DS4 is a bit wonky under steam, easiest description would go towards something like more inputlag on steam, but idk.

Best wishes!
