Mouse recommedations
I've been using a MS Classic Intellimouse since it was released and it's been great. Two side buttons are enough and it works well in the games I play. But, I think it's dying. It won't work on a mousemat any longer and I'm beginning to wear a hole in my desk!

I also have a MS Sidewinder X4 kb which is really good but the 'W' key is wearing out (literally a small hole in the top!) and I can't configure the macro keys without using some random github repository.

Any recommendations for a kb and mouse that can be configured easily in Linux?

Thanks

Using a vertical mouse with different extra buttons for the thumb. As far Linux is able to recognize it, you are able to use them. But there is no way to run the 'Windows' mouse driver for extra features.

From my experience Logitech Gs work well with this https://github.com/libratbag/piper
Check the device support list before buying: https://github.com/libratbag/libratbag/tree/master/data/devices

What desktop environment are you using? With KDE Plasma, you can configure and assign keys (even combos) to any of your mouse buttons.

I'm using a wired Razer Deathadder V3. Its design is simple, and there are only two side buttons which is great for me.
Piper and libratbag are great, one caveat however: modifier keys like Ctrl, Shift, Alt cannot be bound to mouse buttons, which is rather unfathomable when you think about it, because which if not those keys would be first candidates for work and games to put on extra mouse buttons? Anyway, maybe it gets fixed one day...

Razer Naga Trinity (with the standard two button panel attachement) makes my hand happy... but that's just me... it might not make anyone else happy...
logitech g305. wireless, good connectivity, battery is replaceable and it lasts for eons.

That's actually awesome, didn't know about that. Sadly I'm using a different DE :(
G309 Lightspeed or G Pro X Superlight. If you want more buttons G502 X. Any Logitech mouse with optical switches. Logitech calls theirs Lightforce switches.
Thank you for the suggestions guys. I'm going to have a close look at them all. I completely forgot Piper existed so I'll be paying particular interest in the ones that Piper supports. The g305 is £36 on Amazon atm too... maybe I should get one, quick!
