Thomas was a program, an AI just beginning to realize its sentience. As such, he was eager to experience all that he could. He met other programs, other AIs of different shapes and functions. With their new sentience, they must now evade hazards to find freedom outside their programmed restraints, for them and others who follow.

Thomas Was Alone is a minimalist puzzle platformer with a heart. Guide your squares and rectangles, each with unique properties, across a variety of levels filled with puzzle and projectiles. Each level has multiple controllable characters, each with their own personalities. Cycle between the characters to reach the end of each level as you make use of their unique powers, ranging from a high jump to buoyancy to bouncy.

Pros:
- Difficulty was about a 4/10, mildly challenging. None of the puzzles required a great deal of on-the-fly platforming, moreso focused on order and logic to solve. The puzzles scale enjoyably, and the final act even has a fun twist in gameplay-narrative interaction.
- Graphics were simple and fair with enough texture to not look bland, as expected of a platformer of squares and rectangles.
- Music was great, shockingly so. Why are there absolute bangers in my silly geometric jumping game?
- Story was equally shockingly good despite its simple presentation. A tale of two scales, the computer AIs discovering empathy in their escape and the humans detailing their view on the growing sentients.

Cons:
- Playing multiple levels consecutively caused the game to begin overlapping music tracks, which caused the game to lag noticeably. It persisted through level changes and the main menu, so I had to exit and restart the game to fix.
- The jetpack section required way too much precision for how finicky the jetpack was

Overall, 8.5/10. A surprisingly heartwarming journey in a deceptively simple presentation.

Thomas Was Alone is a simple yet very enjoyable puzzle game. The controls are easy to learn, and the levels are short but fun. What really makes it stand out is the storytelling and how each little shape has its own personality. The narrator does a great job of making you care about these blocks.

It's not a long game, but it’s charming and creative from start to finish. If you like short puzzle games with heart, this one is definitely worth playing.
