What RPG maker version is this? I want to know if I should upgrade before my projects get too large.

Judging from the facesets, some tiles and the fact that the cursors is a scripting addition and not supported by default, I believe it´s fairly probable that this was made with RPG Maker VX Ace. Anyways, yeah, RPG Maker VX Ace is already quite old and I am already considering "updating" to the latest version for future projects. It is also possible to port the graphics from VX to MZ and vice-versa with Game Character Hub.

How do you get the tall sprites? (I'm not using RPG Maker anymore and I'm trying to learn Unity, but still I've always been curious.) Do you need to make them yourself?

As far as I know, with Character Game Hub there are two sets of items that go with taller character: "Loofleaf" and "XP". Then you use the function to convert from XP to VX Ace and it´s done.

Second Story sprites as a base from GCH and then we made a ton of our own stuff from scratch. Like we're doing with our new game, Chaos Chain.
