- if it doesn't work try to run a game in windowed mode (game->manage->properties->general). There is a place to add modification commands to launch a game. Add there:

-windowed

BTW Are you on Windows? Did you update graphic driver before the issue occurs?

The problem is with locking a vertex buffer and return a pointer to the buffer's memory. I wonder if forcing game to run with DirectX9 instead of 8 with:

-force-d3d9

will resolve this issue, so try this too with the same steps like above with '-windowed' command.

I'm really sorry but if above solutions doesn't help you I have no idea how I can help more:/ Maybe reinstallation of a game will be a good idea (remember to backup your save games if you want give it a try)? But it's not a solution you probably are waiting for.

Nice to hear the game doesn't crash anymore.
Try right click on game then -> properties -> general -> language (here choose Russian language).

I had an OpenGL error when launching "HL-2 New Episode" in Linux on a laptop with an integrated video card. I was able to resolve the issue by setting it to single core instead of "multicore" in the graphic settings of the game.

They artificially raised the system requirements in the updated HL-2.
I managed to get rid of this error and game crashes by using the graphics settings. The top three settings are on the screenshot. The error is just above.

make sure your half-life 2 is starting with opengl, if so go to the half-life page in your library, go to manage (in the gear) then properties and in startup options and put "-vulkan" (I don't know if what I said is 100% correct because I'm using google translator)
