gnomes. .
they have the highest wisdom, but aren't allowed to be any of the magic caster classes. . .

a weird decision with all the racial restrictions, considering they were allowed in the first game.
also would have been great if this game showed the class requirements instead of me having to go to the gamefaqs guides for the old version.

edit : I see now. . the gnome can be an alchemist, and alchemist learns all the same spells as the mage. alchemist is also restricted class only for gnomes and nobody else.

from the gamefaqs wiki, apparently, every race has one class that only they can be

celestial - fallen angel
diablo - necromancer
gnome - alchemist
elf - elementalist
khulaz - geomancer
fairy - sage
human - gunner
dwarf - berserker
felpurr - beast
bahamut - dragon knight.

class changes are gonna be way more finicky in this game and obviosly, i won't be able to showcase them all in one party, even with class changing.

gamefaq board seems to say that gnomes are the best race because they have instant death protection. . i dunno.

Pound for pound, Gnomes can theoretically be an extremely powerful option in the long run because of their extremely positive compatibility with many races and their innate immunity to death attacks. You simply have to get them to a place where they're actually at high levels (for the effect of compatibility to shine) and high hit points, both of which are high hurdles to clear with their starting stats. They'll never be *better* at fighting than Humans, but are physical stat caps actually important to a min-maxer? Meanwhile nothing comes close to their caster stats.

So yes, Alchemist only. In I the *only* thing they were poor at that mattered was initiative.

i had one in my party for the entire game. was a useful caster and convenience for crafting.
but, the fairy sage was a much better caster. stronger magic, highest agility. more MP.

seem, gnome is for utility. fairy for pure power. I also ended up with an elf summoner, who i then changed to a ranger, because they get to keep their summons and the final summons spell is OP, doing straight 9's in damage once you get to around level 90.

I'm not denying the usefulness of the gnome. I saw stuff saying that gnome fighters are good, if you can fix their hp.
the problem in this game is that life fruits are way more difficult to farm than they were in the first game. I think i barely found 10-20 of them across my entire playthrough and when i reincarnated my gnome, she lost all of the extra hp from the lifefruits. . so the lifefruits are only worth it if you're not gonna reincarnate or if you already reincarnated 24 times and i had already cleared ALL the content before i even reincarnated once. I just did the 1 reincarnate for the achievement.

did any player ever actually sit there and grind xp to reincarnate 24 times ever? i suppose there might have been JP players that did it on the psp version, but it seems like a pointless mechanic, since all the content can be beaten around level 50-60 with zero reincarnates, and probably even earlier, i just happened to be around that level when i finished everything.
