Do we really need difficulty from the 80s back?
I've been playing the game frequently these last two weeks and all I can tell you, is how much "rage quit" you feel when those jumps simply don't work. Also the hang button doesn't always work. And what's wrong with not being able to collect more grenades? what's the purpose of enemies giving them to you once or twice on every stage? I come from the "Nintendo hard" decade, I did play with all the disadvantages we had back then. We don't need that now. Perhaps an update fixing the grab button, and allowing the character to collect more grenades, and maybe make more upgrades to the weapon and energy bar as well.

Now don't get me wrong, in recent years I've played many metroidvania games, I have even liked those that were dissed by the Steam community for their control limitations. It's the year 2023. We need game mechanics from this decade. I mean, it's great to get 8/16 bit graphics and their corresponding soundtrack, that is simply fantastic but gameplay, should definitely be improved in order to get more players!

if you come from the Nintendo Hard decade then this one shouldnt be that bad. what are you crying and "rage quitting" for?
Neither crying nor rage quitting. It's just that the game becomes repetitive after a while because of controls and difficulty. Like you need a lot of patience to go on. To each his own though.

Never had one issue grabbing a ledge that wasn't my own damn fault, and you shouldn't rely on grenades anyway, especially on Classic.

...just play on easy? That's what I'm doing. I just wanna vibe through some retro aesthetics and not get frustrated and that fits the bill.

Also, this game is nowhere near as difficult, even on Classic, as many of its inspirations.

A steady hand and a keen eye will get you past most of Prison City. The games of the 80s didn't always give you that, with even some of the greatest of the era having some life-stealing jank.

Many of us grew up playing the more difficult games, and enjoy the Classic level of difficulty. I won't play a modern Mario game anymore (anything past the SNES area, really) because they're repetitive... by way of being completely, mind-numbingly easy.

If you thought Metroidvania games were retro difficulty, you would be incorrect. Most of those are actually insanely easy or very short. There are a few modern exceptions, but not many.

These guys gave multiple difficulty settings. If you're having problems clinging to things, you should look at your gamepad as a potential issue. Jumps can be more of an issue because of the acceleration in movement, which is one of those annoying things that can mess up the timing... but you get used to it, and there's always enough room to hit max speed before a necessary jump.

Not every game is for every person.
