Wolfteam: Reboot

Ideas for a Revamp
Hello, I'm someone who's always boasted and supported this game and I've even recently pushed and tutored new players on how this game works, I was also someone who used to play competitively in the earlier years (2008 to 2010) and was an active part of a Pride in the top leaderboards as well when Pride Wars became a thing, after discussions and thoughts I thought I could give some ideas for a big revamp that would not be too costly, at least starting off, to be able to bring back a consistent playerbase. I also am aware that some of these changes would be a lot for a certain percentage of the veteran playerbase so I would like to lead with my first idea:

- Converting 1 to 3 servers to test servers to try new things, the player numbers as they are now have a rough time filling a single server so I do not think this should affect too much, I'm not much how the background work is like so this might not be possible however if the worry is alienating already paying customers, having the regular servers as they are to not affect them while being able to test some things out to see if a playerbase can be built off the push of core changes would be very useful. Which leads me to the second idea.

- Cosmetics. Tired of being Grunt #3241? Put on an outfit for Angela Mao, this is the core money maker for most free to play games of this era as I'm sure you're aware, and pushing it to be only cosmetics would avoid cannibalizing the burgeoning playerbase. Back when I started there were only 4 skins out and the armor, it wasnt really my thing but I did see a lot of people buy the base skins just to look different. And despite that I did often buy AP at that time, but where I personally had found a lot of value and worth was the Power User boost. That item was everything everyone wanted and needed. As I'll mention later the core gameplay of wolfteam is really good, I would even go all the way to say unmatched thanks to the smooth (for the time) movement of the wolf forms, pay-gating extra stats, especially when you can't even see them sometimes, just gives a sense of unfairness that makes all the new players give up almost immediately, especially when it comes to the EX ice wolves, while very cool (especially looking which is a great way to sell them already) being slowed down to a stand still prevents any action to be taken and results in most people just giving up. With a test server as previously mentioned you can also receive the best of both worlds with removing all armor advantages and EX wolves by not affecting the core members but allowing a newer base to adapt to the gameplay loop and learn to love the game. And for the wolf run.. Well that I think can still be salvaged with my next point.

- Wolf vs Hybrids. It would be nice to differentiate a real full fledged wolf and the ones that can turn human with the four-legged run. Give it exclusively for Humans vs Wolf, Wolf vs Wolf and Wolf Wars as well as of course the game mode it came out for Wolfhunt. And having it automatically or even accessible through gold like the 2nd Wolf Mutation pact or even having it accessible through an AP-purchased wearable like a Tattoo would give a lot of customisation and clarity for this, sure you'd have to switch tattoos when you switch game modes but having the player play with their inventory to strategize is an advantage this game has to other modern games in my opinion. Which leads me to the second biggest issues my new players had with getting into this game..

- Optimisation. Now I know this costs money that the game isnt bringing in yet, and I think thats fine, because they were willing to look past this issue as long as the gameplay was good, but it is still very important, especially when it comes to a borderless windowed mode or at least adjusting the screen size to modern day monitors as it often glitches out the game. I also know the anti-cheat engine is very old at this point and that also needs money to be updated BUT we had the cheater issue back in the day and with Power User we could just vote kick and fill them out with another player, so that can be solved further down the line once a playerbase comes back, but if it does these are key things to update and I would be remiss to not mention it.

- My 4th and last point would be to bring back fun. I think organising a couple big events per year especially after changes to the core system are made would market the game very well, but no I dont mean attendance or loot events, I mean stupid game modes, jokes between devs, very wonky ♥♥♥♥ thats just fun to see but is never meant to stay, for example an april fools mode where all of a sudden humans vs humans are replace with wolves with guns, or maybe a christmas Santa wolfhunt mode where the wolves are sporting santa hats or a 4 player PvE mode where the wolves damage is reduced and all the players have increase speed and jump and can only use knives or that new battle royale mode gets invaded by PvE basic wolves and you have to fight everything off together. A lot of cool things can be done, and not only that, now that this game is on steam you can very easily open this up to a community workshop, especially if hacking is already an issue that wont be fixed without throwing money at it, I dont see what you guys would have to lose on this.

- Side note, not a point at all, what happened to the 1v1 Knife maps, those were so cool and I just couldnt find them anymore, sure once armor came out it was terrible but there was an honor system in that game mode where people wouldnt use armor, that built community, that built fun.

In summary, I love this game, and the players I introduce this game to also agree with me that the core gameplay is a beautiful gem in the rough. I think this game has a lot of potential and despite not having the consistency it requires to get regular updates, I do think if you loosen the collar a little bit and allow players to fall in love with this game all over again you could find at the very least a loyal playerbase, but unfortunately the game was tarnished for years with a lot of abusive monetisation which scared off new players and probably bankrupted some veteran players into quitting. I do not know where to contact the developers but I would give a lot to see this game come back to its former glory and if any of these ideas seem.. even possible I would love to provide more or at least campaign to bring back people to this game more strongly, but in the state it is right now I simply cannot do anything but appreciate that at least it still exists and reminisce on the days where The Law truly prevailed.

Thank you for reading if anything.
