Amazing remake, I have some nitpicks here and there I am not a fan of in-engine cutscene but absolutely enjoyed the remake. Just forget that episode Aigis exists and enjoy a classic from atlus that paved the way for modern persona games

I played Persona 4 Golden and then Persona 5 Royal. P3 has always intrigued me, but the game is really old, this remaster brings it up to modern standards. This is a blind playthrough for me.

The Persona formula is definitely here: a mix of visual novel and dungeon crawling set in an ultra-Japanese atmosphere (which might put some people off).

For the visual novel part: A central theme DEATH that is masterfully handled by a story that might be a bit conventional but keeps you on the edge of your seat, diverse and endearing characters, polished art direction, and sublime music. Everything fits together, and it’s all high quality.

For the dungeon-crawling part: Clearly a divisive aspect. It’s 2008, and the Persona formula is still quite raw. The gameplay is very repetitive with no level design. The Persona system is deep but chaotic to get into. The pleasant surprise is that the difficulty and balance are expertly tune even better than P5R and P4G.

The adventure is quite long (~80 hours). Does the game hold up over that time? I’d say P3R succeeds with flying colors because the level of polish is very high. Quality-of-life improvements, faster load times, and shortcuts are welcome. You might grumble about the Velvet Room being less user-friendly than the rest, but overall, this is a game of exceptional quality.

P3R is a fantastic JRPG.

My main criticism is aimed at the aggressive marketing: a 70€ remake that apparently doesn’t include all the original additional content, with a 35€ DLC on top of that !

this is the type of game where you finally beat it after 100 hours and are half tempted to play it again to see stuff you missed. i beat this game and became a better person
