It's just filed under quest items. Doesn't mean it has to be one. The Mechanical parts aren't a quest item per se either, are they? They're not used to finish a quest. They're just stored there as to not take up space.

I just find it hard to believe, I'm not calling you a liar or anything. the mechanical parts at least have a use. And they are used to (indirectly) complete the tower defense quests by allowing you to build traps.

Anyone remember Maniac Mansion? The chainsaw was completely useless as you could not fill up the gas, it drove several people insane trying to figure that out. ;)

And just so you can sleep in peace. I have this from a NeoCore developer from the official forums. There he pretty much stated the boot serves no purpose.

Nope, you need it for the statue in the ink in chapter 3 in Old Town after you lowered the protecting force field.
