Does anybody know what is the maximum amount of unlockable credits ?

I think the number can go really high, like up to at least 15 or 20? Not sure if I'm remembering right from when I played this game, but I think the number of shields stops increasing but the number of credits doesn't. However, beating the game then reduces the number of credits.
