Save states?
Any way to add or mod in save states? Call it my modern-age gaming brain, but the game is extremely difficult when every time I die, I can lose 20-30 minutes of progress and be sent back to the nearest elevator.

You can save every time you enter an elevator. There is no other way to save. Just go back to the elevator and save constantly everytime

Just make sure to go to the elevator room before you do anything major. It doesn't lose that much progress when you get into the habit.

These games are native ports, not emulations, so no save states. A quicksave function would be nice but I think that would be much harder to do.

Are they really native ports? I was under the impression that they were emulated. I can’t find much about these versions in steam online.

They are native ports, the game files are unpacked just like MGS2 and MGS3, you can browse every file the game has and even make adjustments to them if you know what you're doing.

That is unlike the emulated games in this collection, which are MGS1 and the games in the Bonus Content, Metal Gear (NES) and Snake's Revenge (NES). Those are packed into are large bin files, which are like ISO files, and they have emulation menus you can bring up.

Came here to make a thread about this but since there is one already I'll just say that I finally broke down and bought the $20, mainly for MG and MG2SN and while it's great to finally be able to play the MSX2 version of the original game and it's sequel, I really would have thought they could include save sates in their fancy new menu. I guess saving in the elevators will have to do.

These games are not emulated, they're native ports, so they wouldn't have save states anyway, but maybe adding more save points when you reach new areas would've been nice. MG2:SS is much better about this, making it so that save points happen when you enter a new floor from an elevator or a completely different building.
