metal gear 2 was never released on NES in japan
both were just MSX games
And we got Metal gear NES which is kinda similar to MSX version and Snakes revenge which is NA/EU only, which was done by konami without Kojima and was so bad that it convinced Kojima to actually make a Metal Gear 2

Iirc it was one of the Snake's Revenge devs that asked Kojima to make a proper sequel and Kojima at the time didn't even know Konami had another team making Snake's Revenge
