Overheat! You have Passive Skills you can buy into and make your mecha more proficient.
I recommend walking speed in the beginning. Lets you dodge a lot and in gerenal for fariming its super nice. Next should be your Maingun. Dmg and range! from there on do whatever you like.

it's the first mission, the first gun, how can it overheat after just one shot and for a minute. how are you supposed to go through there, if that's really the reason (and it doesn't say anywhere that it's overheated), then that's really bad gamedesign

Its sounds like your Special Gun then. The one with Limited Ammo?
Which mecha did you choose? The one with Autocannons?
Theres Reload/ Overheat bar for every Weapon! I grinded out the Game a lot.

EDIT: I just went into the Game. i took the Tyrant Class, i assume its the one you took.
So you have 3 Bars.
TOP ONE: Its with Dots. I empties the dots showing Mag Count. Infinte Ammo
MIDDLE ONE: Stamina
BOTTOM ONE: 2ndary Weapon, has limited Ammo. HAs about a 8 sec Reload...

Is it the Tutorial Mission or the first real Mission you have problems with?

no idea which one i chose. but the one with unlimited ammo is the one with a minute cooldown. the recharge bar is full within a couple seconds but it doesn't shoot for around a minute.

it's the first mission, i think it's the tutorial, there are hints telling me how to dash and stuff

Okay thats weird never had any problem with it... maybe a bug
Verifiy integrit yof Gamefiles and do a new start! maybe it helps

i had it uninstalled. re-installed it now, deleted the old save, started again. first mech is the tryrant and it was just the same, the main gun has a minute or so cooldown. same in the second mission. aborted the mission, switched to the other mech with the pulse laser, that one doesn't shoot at all with the main weapon and after some time the camera glitched and i was looking at a black void with the game map occasionally drifting through the view... this game seems broken af...

I dont know Buddy. It works for me. I think you just need SKillpoints. You supposed to be fragile in the beginnning!
What i did is kiting Enemies away, sometimes one at the time. The Game is hard until you get it steamroll with Upgrades. Dont give up!
JUst put some points into the WWeapon and check the skilltree with passives!

nah, i uninstalled it again. to me that seems like a huge bug that needs to be fixed. as i said, the reload bar is full for a long time before i can actually shoot again. secondary gun with ammo works fine though and deals a lot more dmg while also having enough ammo to clear that first mission, so there wasn't any struggle. it's just the primary gun that's not working properly
