WTF is up with the dlc dragon instant kill?
I played this 10 years ago, but don't remember this part where you just go down a ladder after the forest area and die right away? This happened 3x and I'm confused because I don't remember fighting Kalameet here, there was like a little town area. But every time I climb down the ladder the dragon breathes dark fire both ways, you cannot dodge it, and it kills me in 1 hit.
I have not fought Artorias yet, but I remember being able to progress further in the dlc than what seems to be a soft wall I cannot pass. Am I remembering this wrong? Where do I go next in the dlc?

I'm sure there are tricks and whatnot to bypass this, but, playing straight, you need to beat Artorias. Once you do so, you'll be able to explore the area you fought him, eventually triggering an event that'll make it possible to fight the dragon.

Having that said, the dragon is an optional boss of the dlc, and it's not necessary to defeat him to progress (or beat) the dlc.

You can kill him as soon as you get there, even if he only flies around

I've never managed to kill him without the gough arrow, I'd wait until the event as WickedRequiem said.

The fight was actually fairly easy, I just didn't remember you had to wait for him to land and kept dying like an idiot to his flame breath.
I just strafed around to his back and shot with magic until he died.
