FEAR was a unique game in that it came out of no-where to blow peoples minds in terms of what chaotic gun play could really look and feel like. Objects go flying, glass shatters, dust from everything eating lead is kicked up, blinding your vision. The sound design blends the music into various moments of the game to pump up the adrenaline, while weapons sound great (seriously, that mini-gun is insane and feels better than any other representation of it in a first person shooter I've ever played).

Even to this day I still replay the first game. The excellent AI routines of the enemy are present in this expansion as well which is great as you truly feel hunted here.

I have only two gripes about this one: The narrative feels a little weaker than FEAR, but not by much and is still interesting enough to make you want to push forward and discover more. The second is a gripe all us FEAR fans share from the first game; WE NEED MORE FRIKKEN PISTOL AMMO!

If I could John Woo my way through the entire game I would have, but... you cant't. Well okay, maybe there is someone out there who somehow accomplished it despite entire areas containing zero pistol ammo. *sigh*

Anyways, this expansion to FEAR is almost as awesome in every way and definitely worth your time. And the gun play and fights are still better than most offerings available today. Seriously, where else can you find a FPS where the shotgun actually works and delivers lethal damage beyond point-blank-the-barrel-is-down-your-throat range?

The horror element is just icing on the cake and keeps you on your toes (and whimpering quietly sometimes).

If you have not experienced the FEAR games (understandable, they are old) get the entire franchise on STEAM and play through the lot of them. Time well spent, and when they go on special their usually dirt cheap due to their age. You'll be a sad panda if yo miss this opportunity and the game disappears off the market.

Oh yeah, one caveat; getting the graphics to work on a modern monitor is a pain in the behind. Read up on a guide and your set. No mods needed, but if memory serves there is a file you'll need to open and alter in order to force a resolution change. It works 100% of the time, so not a major for me. For all the time I've put into just this DLC alone, that bit of frustration was worth it.

To you younger folk, trust this old fart and give the series a go.
