Sometimes if you add new textures they can be invisible because the Save File is looking for the original file and now you've confused it so you get nothing... so in some cases what you did might work if you restarted the game and had a fresh save. I don't know.
Dragon Age Origins is a nightmare to mod. I started getting INVISIBLE textures then removed all my mods and they are still there. So I have to start over.
Anyway, find a Tutorial if you haven't already. I don't know if the one I linked helps. Not all texture replacements work the same.
