PSA: Windows 10/11 Users regarding crashes & Errors
Traveler's Tales games typically used the same engine for the Lego Games, which means some issues are pretty common, especially since they were originally developed for older PS2-era hardware and later for PS3 era consoles.

## Common Issues
- Black screen / resolution issues on startup
- Some Traveler's Tales games will actually auto-adjust the sound out to a non-existent playback device, resulting in no sound.
- Slight bugs due to high FPS
- Controllers not being registered
- Level glitch?

## Quick solutions

[ ] Enable Compatibility settings for High DPI Scaling Override
- Navigate to game page in Steam Library -> Settings (Cog wheel) -> Browse Local Files
- Right click the executable/application for "Lego Batman" and select properties
- Access the Compatibility Tab -> Change High DPI Settings -> Check the Second box to Override High DPI Settings

[ ] Attach an external speaker (If your computer is hooked up via HDMI)

[ ] Toggle VSync from the game's Video options menu

[ ] Enable steam input and connect your controller before you launch
- Navigate to game page in Steam Library
- Click the controller icon next to the settings icon (Cog wheel), Note: If it's not there, that means steam doesn't recognize the controller is connected. You can try reconnecting or restarting steam.

[ ] Restarting the level resolves most softlocks. I used to see these on the PS2 versions.

## Advanced Solutions
Navigate to the configuration file. (I haven't had to manually adjust this at all.)

This is generally a bad idea. Playing without V-Sync has been known to cause numerous problems in this game. The most common one seems to be controlling an RC car in one particular stage, but it has caused many other problems as well (and maybe even crashes for a couple of people). This forum is filled with posts (must be literally hundreds by now) from people that were having problems because V-Sync wasn't turned on.

I guess the underlying problem may be high FPS, like you mentioned, so you need V-Sync (or possibly some external software) to limit the frame rate. But these aren't "slight bugs". They're completely game-breaking, preventing you from completing whatever level you're playing.

It's hard to say since there was another thread who mentioned that fix and people were still facing the issue. I just recently went through the campaign in the last week and haven't encountered anything like that at all. I'll turn it off and try to reproduce the issue. Were you running single player or two player?

I just know the most consistent cause of issues in these games is the resolution and the inability to handle fullscreen in later Windows versions. Indiana Jones and Pirates have been the worst offenders.

Just tried to reproduce the level 1 bug with the RC car with the high DPI option, and these configuration settings on single player. I could not reproduce the bug. I am running on an i5 6500K CPU with no GPU.

I've only played solo. I don't think that I, personally, had problems when I played through the game many years ago, but I probably had V-Sync on. But I have experienced some problems more recently when replaying a section without V-Sync, to check a problem that someone else reported. Enabling V-Sync fixed the problems.

If you search this forum for V-Sync, there are 50 pages of results, going back to at least 2012, with many, many people saying that turning on V-Sync fixed their problem.

I think that at least some of the cases where someone said that turning on V-Sync didn't work were because something was overriding the game setting. For example, the AMD drivers can be set to disable V-Sync in everything, and they have an "enhanced sync" setting that replaces the regular V-Sync, and enabling that can cause problems in this game (I've seen that myself when testing something).

Yeah, the game also seems to have problems with some resolutions and multiple monitors (there have been a number of posts about those more recently), and it probably has other issues, but turning on V-Sync (and making sure that it's actually on) has fixed problems for a lot of people (or, conversely, playing without V-Sync has caused problems for a lot of people).
