What's the logic behind it? I just don't get it. I've seen a video on youtube but they don't explain how they arrive at the answer so i'm stumped how you work out the solution.

Okay, I figured it out. Maybe the hints system gives similar clues but I never used them, ended up working it out by taking screenshots of the other box codes and looking at them all till it made sense.

Hint for others looking for the answer;
Each number represents an instruction

A partial further hint:
For example, 1 means rotate clockwise

the full set:

1 means rotate clockwise once
9 means rotate anti clockwise once

3 means shift every button state to the left once
4 means shift every button state to the right once

5 means reverse all button states

if your instruction is a 1 and then a 3, would you apply the 3 to the state before or to your beginning letter

to the state before, not the beginning letter

This puzzle was absolutely BS. @ADJStreams your solution doesn't make sense either, considering the solution for the box involves a 5 but it somehow turns a T into an X

I agree. I stalled on this puzzle for a very long time trying to understand it until i caved in and used the hint system. The wording of the hint system had my head spinning and i was seconds away from volleying my pc across the room until my phone rang and broke my anger.
here's how to find the solution

you do each grid of 3x3 in order starting on the left. you figure out what each number has done to it by looking at the boxes in the rooms. you start with the T, T is just a T, put it on the hallway box in the first grid. now you move to the next grid on the right of the T which is for the number 1, checking on the boxes in the room you see that 1 gets rotated 90 degrees clockwise. so you take the T, rotate it to where its laying on its side, thats the 2nd grid pattern. you then take the second grid pattern and apply the rule for what gets done to the number 3. the number 3 pattern gets shifted to the left once, looping back around on the right side of the 3x3 grid. you now have a plus sign in the third grid. you take the plus sign and apply what gets done to the number 5 from the boxes in the room. 5 gets inverted. invert the plus sign to get your final grid pattern.

never gets implied that you should do the grids in order, the only thing you know is you need to get the numbers and how the pattern is affected. kind of a bad puzzle in my opinion.
