The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

[SOLVED] Error 0xc000007b
I have bought this game like one or two weeks ago, and haven't been able to play it ever since. First, the "PLAY" button in Steam wouldn't do anything. I clicked, then the Steam logo appears in the button, and it gets back to say "PLAY".

Now, when I go to the local game files and try to start it from there (not even the Launcher, but from The Witcher Enhanced Edition/System/witcher.exe) it pops up this terrible 0xc000007b error. It seems to be a problem with the game and the Visual C++ files in the system. Now, I've installed and reinstalled everything, vcredist files, directx, .net framework, and just nothing works and I'm in the merge of desperation. I've also emailed CD Projekt Red but I've had no response from them.

Thanks for reading, I hope to get some help finally.

Edit: So this is how I solved it out:

1.- Just for safety, I re-downloaded the game to start a clean fix.

2.- I ran McRip VC Redist Installer - link below in the marked answer - which will install all of the necessary Visual Studio C++ packages on your system.

3.- Restarted my computer.

4.- If you try (at least in my case) to start the game through Steam at this point, it will do nothing, and if you try to start the game through the witcher.exe in The Witcher Enhanced Edition/System you will get error 0xc000007b.

5.- For that, I downloaded a 32 bit version of the "d3dx9_35.dll" file, and placed it in the System folder in the game's directory.

6.- Done! This is how the problem got solved for me.

Hello! My OS is Windows 7 and I have some problems with Windows Update ever since I installed it (it doesn't look for updates), and for that matter, I've been looking forward to reinstall Windows, see if it helps somehow. And yes, my GPU is up to date.

I'll leave my specs just in case it helps:

OS: Windows 7 Professional
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 5400 Series (1GB)
Motherboard: Asrock H61M-VG3
RAM: 4GB Ram
CPU: i3-2100

If it's remarkable to say that, I HAVE run the game in this system before, in this same OS, but when I downloaded from Steam, it all started happening (all the things I said up there).

I'll give the McRip VC Redist Installer a shot and come back if it worked.

Hello gatto, I'm tuning in again to say that, the game sometimes opens, and sometimes not. Like, the first time I installed the VC Redist Installer and restarted the PC, I went to the game's launcher and it ran. But if I closed the game and tried to open it again, it won't do anything (clicking the launcher or witcher.exe directly, not from steam really). Sometimes restarting the PC again helps (as I read in some forum before), but it's not 100% of the times so I don't know. That's why I haven't closed this discussion.

Alrighttttt so I reinstalled the game and the problem seems to be gone. I did have to add a d3dx9_35.dll to the System folder in the game's directory for it to run though. Game runs smoothly for now. What a trip this has been. Thanks for the help!

Thanks man. This part with d3dx9_35.dll was the last piece of the puzzle.
Now game works ok.

TYSM :D I spent so long trying to fix this. Putting d3dx9_35.dll in System did the trick. For some reason whenever I tried doing the DirectX June 2010 Redist setup it just never worked and would always result in an error.

Running McRip VC Redist Installer solved for me, and for TW2 too. It seems that 2005 package was not isntalled in my system!
