What are some of the best ways to earn the "To Boldly Go Achievement."
It is the achievement for massively exploring the universe in as little turns as possible but with the times involved in building ships, the technologies needed to even leave your starting area and just how huge the universe is in the game, I just don't see how this is reasonably possible.

Other than
1. Build just scout ships and send one off MANUALLY each turn.
2. Tech very hard in the Exploration or even use a "Trainer" to unlock the tech needed to even leave your starting area.
3. Set it up so you are only competing with one race and that race is an overly friendly one.

But other than that, I am not sure of just what is needed beyond there. Anything else?

Play as Amoeba?
Or am I thinking about another achievement?

It could work. I am not sure exactly what bonus Amoeba has. The achievement or the rash of many achievements that are pretty much the same thing other than the achievement I am refering to is the highest one, is the exploration of EVERY space in a huge Galaxy map in 50 turns.

Even WITH a trainer I can't do this. I don't like so much with cheating but lets be blunt, this is a great game but the first two hours to achieve Wormhole travel is LONGGGGGG. So, I just use a trainer to open up the technology JUST to open up the worlds and the ability to travel anywhere.

Well Amoeba have the trait that they can see every system at the start so you automatically get a notice from the game. Can't remember if there's an achievement attached to it though.

But two hours until you get Wormhole Technology? I get that much faster. You should tech mainly in the exploration tree at the start anyway so I've never thought it took long to get that.

Edit: Create a race with bonus tech, Sophon affinity, happiness and food and you should have no problem to get the tech quickly.

Yeah that added to what I said above could work. I will try it shortly.

Wouldnt hurt to use a homemade faction. Focus on science and movement speed for ur traits. hire a commander who can add fleet movement quickly. You should still research evenly to make ur colonies grow. This will increase ur science and ultimately make it easier to get to needed exporation techs. Scouts scouts scouts.... Your later groups of scouts should be grouped together until they reach a point where they can split off to untraveled locations. say if u have 7 systems between ur production system and the next explorable one. Keeping them together will stack their fleet movement effects from thier engines. Split when u reach the next unknown teritry and manuallly move them.

2 hours to wormhole tech? It's pretty much always the 4th tech I get. Usually by turn 20 or less IIRC. How could it take you two hours? Unless we're talking about different techs?

So for those who might still be trying for this/researching how to get it done;

My strategy was:
Play as any race with fast food/science (playing as Amoeba does not auto complete the achievement as far as I can tell) I did it as Amoeba to test the auto completion but Siphon would be nice too (or any custom race with food/science)

For the "Settings": Difficulty- Newbie (this helps the computer expand slowly so it's not so annoying to "explore" their systems)
Game Speed - Fast (this helps get faster science and travel times)

For the "Advanced-Settings":
For the "Galaxy": Many Exploration events (this helps get bonus science/dust for flying to systems)
No Pirates (this helps your scouts not die to random blockades)

For "Galaxy":
Shape - Disk or Galaxy ring (helps stop backtracking for scouts)
Size - Huge (*Achievement required*)
Empires - 2 (Only have to dodge one computer for easy mode)
Age - Young (Helps have more Terran/ocean/jungle planets for fast expansion/food)

For "Advanced-Galaxy":
Galaxy Density - Low (less systems to find in total = less total travel time; this makes the achievement significantly easier)
Star connectivity - High (Fewer dead-ends)
Number of Constellations - Unique (sometimes spawns without wormholes for no tech needed)
Wormholes - High (Fewer dead-ends)
Constellations Distance - Close (reduces travel time)

All of the rest of the settings are up to you;

The Game play:
1. Create a new scout ship that is stripped down to just engines and no other tonnage
2. Blitz science to Wormhole tech
3. Create a fleet of scout ships (I had about 10) and set them on auto explore as they are made

You should be done by turn 30 or so, the achievement will not register as "finished" until turn 50 tho.

If you play as amoeba you can go for the no weapons victory in the same play though with just mass fast planetary expand

Using the amoeba profile cuts both ways. First, you don't get the achievement for just playing amoeba and seeing the map, you have to visit each star. So, on the plus side, you can plan you routes more effectively, or see in advance you are blocked. The downside is, you have to keep track for yourself what stars you visited.

Build a galaxy with no wormholes (unique constellation iirc). One easy opponent. Spam.scout
