Especially annoying on stuff like the Soaring Surcoat. having that dangling cloth bugs the hell out of me.
If you don't mind having mods you can use Transmogify to give yourself the perfect look independent of armor stats.
I hate the asymmetry. I hate armour with one shoulderplate or mismatched gauntlets or hanging weirdly to one side like a toga. I utterly refuse to wear anything that isn't at least 90% symmetrical. Asymmetry is NOT a valid aesthetic choice. Japan needs that drilled collectively into their heads.
I don't much care for platemail either. It makes characters look massively fat. But then I don't use red vocations, so it isn't generally a concern. Still, every time I see some wild Fighter / Warrior pawn with shoulders a mile wide and wearing armour that looks like a scrapheap got dumped on them, I tend to just throw them off the nearest cliff.
This whole thing reminds me of a lot of the mods for Monster Hunter World where people would remove all the drapey or dangly bits and turn everything into armour bikinis... and it looked stupid. Utterly stupid. I even tried modelling myself for a short while to try and fix the damage, but I couldn't wrap my head around it and gave up.
PS: In DD1, some Sleves disappeared if equiped with some Arm Armor, but since we don't have those in DD2, the fashion is not as rich
