S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky

Why does S.T.A.L.K.E.R. uses rubles?
In STALKER, the currency is rubles (RB). The game centers around the Chernobyl Nuclear powerplant which is in Ukraine. The Official Ukrainian Currency is Ukranian hryvnia. GSC game world is Ukrainian, but why would they use rubles as the currency?

(sorry for my bad grammer.)
You should ask yourself why exactly that thought came to your mind?
Normally people dont care about these things in videogames, as its obvious the developers didnt care.
The developers speak Russian in all their interviews btw, maybe you might wanna ask them why they dont use their own country's language and insist on using the language of another country? lol

Ukraine was part of Russia for a very long time and they share a lot of common history and culture. Its fairly recent that Ukraine separated from Russia (due to united states involvement), but many of Ukraine's inhabitants dont really see themselves as a different people.

Ukraine was separated politically not spiritually.

If you really need an explanation for the use of RU, the zone is populated with people that come from all over Russia, not only Ukraine, so RU makes more sense...but realistically speaking, if the zone existed in reality, the currency used would be the USD, since its the favored currency for most shady deals in Eastern Europe, and in the zone all deals are more or less shady, military equipment trafficking, artifact trafficking, you name it.

Because before the politcal HATE exsisted, the game was made in a time when no one cared... Which is probably WHY there will be no more S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game to add to the series... The Road Side Picnic is what the game is modeled off. It is the developer's faveriot story created by Russian authors. Chernobyl location was picked because it was a REAL location. It was already abandon, they didn't have to make up a pretend abandon location, and so on and so forth..

Now any other silly questions???

The game was designed for a Russian market, and the majority of the researchers at the Chernobyl plant were apparently (in the game's canon, not just in real life) Russian.

OK so the developers did that to appeal to the russian audience?

No, that was just the way it is when it was made. Nothing more, nothing less, no conspiracy, no nothing. I personally fail to see the problem your having about this whole ruble thing, that has been on the market since 2007 when it was sold in stores as a DVD way before steam even knew it was released.. What is the problem? Is it like ruining your game or something? Help me understand where your going with this that requiers such attention and digging into? You do know the game was not made in the US right?

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

OK thanks for the info, really appreciate your time and effort. What you said makes sense, and I probably should've did more research a long time ago.

No kay is talking a lot of rubbish about todays politics which has nothing to do with the 10 year old game.

You only need to watch the intro movie of the third game in the series (CoP) to understand that the events in all three games take place between 2007 and 2012. Ukraine did not collapse, because we see that major Degtyarev is an USS agent, USS stands for ukraine state security btw.

Sorry you didnt like my post, but its hard to answer a question related to Ukraine being a separate state from Russia, and use of their national currency in the game, without touching politics.
For your information, Ukraine separated from Russia in 1991, so my rubbish was not about today's politics.

I mean, i agree that RU or USD makes more sense and that the currency is a non issue.

You could easily just say that rubles were a more convenient currency, but then you had to shove in the "common history and people, Ukraine was separated politically not spiritually and due to united states involvement" combo.

It's obvious that neighbouring countries have shared history, and what does "separated politically not spiritually" even mean?.

Ukraine and Russia are two separate countries, the use of ukrainian and/or russian language in ukraine is just a carry over of the USSR/Russian empire times, stop with the "ukraine is russia but something something US involvement" ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

You are calling bulls*it over something that you didnt even spend the effort to read and comprehend properly.
My guess it was a knee jerk reaction over my statement about the US involvement in the separation of Ukraine from the Russian Federation, which is a fact not an assumption and no bulls*it whatsoever.

Regardless, we are both into off topic territory right now, both politically and spiritually :P
