Game performance plummets after the beginning of chapter 5
I've gotten to the part where you find Ashley in the church, and the framerate just goes from 59-60 fps to around 30-40 fps. Before, the game ran just fine on my specs (Intel i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz, GTX 1060 6GB, 16GB RAM) but now it runs like horse crap.

Also an extra question: What settings should I use to get a fully stable framerate? I don't mind the occasional hop to 58 FPS, but I am curious if I could get it to run at 60 all the time.

its not the rain. the village is incredibly cpu bound and is very poorly optimised.

I'm having this same issue and it weird because when I played back in March for the first time I didn't experience this issue. My Fps has gotten as low as 38 on a Rtx 3060

Okay, turning off rain knocked it back up to 60 with a slight occasional hiccup to 58. Will have to play more to see if it works better now.

its a strange issue in that area that can be resolved by pausing the game, waiting a few seconds, then unpausing. has something to do with loading things in the level. when you pause a screenshot is taken and used as the background image for the menu. you are also taken below the map and all characters in the level despawn.

when you unpause everything loads back in. so for some reason this drop in fps has to do with the way things are loaded in.

the rain is heavily cpu threaded. so yeah.

Hopefully they will fix it when the upcoming DLC is out.
This also happens on consoles.

The village has so much clutter/3d objects, it does the most api calls than any other area in the game, that means the CPU will have a hard time dealing with all that data in time for the GPU to render the frames fast enough causing a bottleneck. With the added rain and fog and other intensive effects in chapter 5 that only means there's even more stress on the CPU, hence why the framerate drops even more this time around.

If you want to hate your life even more, try using a scope. The scope system is done so poorly in this game, it will also tank the frames.

The game definitely needs lots of optimizations. This is just unacceptable.

The problem is, at least on my end. I see the GPU usage going from the typical 99% to 60%
But my CPU usage goes to 80 to 90%. And i know my CPU isn't bottlenecking my GPU, because other games i always see the GPU run at 95 to 99%.

After the village part the GPU is back to 99% and fps is capped to 120 fps again. Chapter 5 is the only part in the game where my fps is being cut in half...

I can't run this on 3070 nothing helps even lowest, or turning down VRAM, this game is so terribly optimized, it is even on store page, but than 90% runs fine, have even average 100+ fps on max in some parts... But traversal lag and fps drops make this impossible on hardcore, game is not consistent and sometimes like underwater... You need latest hardware every 2 years, or you can't play anything today... It is not my computer, i tested everything and no issues in other games, it is just the usual terrible optimization... Even overclocked CPU that it was only at 90%, some places fps just tanks and it is inconsistent... Even with DLSS/FSR and scope fix it is not very good... Also I enjoyed it on high details because i wanted to immerse myself and this is not possible if i want to attempt hardcore + runs...

it is the Hair strands setting if you have it on. your frames are tanking because it is trying to render fancy hair on all the villagers you'll gain like 30 fps if you shut it off i gaurentee it.

Even with it off. It still cuts performance in half.

Yep still game doesn't run completely smooth for me in some parts. Even i can hit over 100fps (on max setting LOL) in mine chapter 6, or 3 forgot... But then performance in some parts tanks! While it is running consistently in others - it is frustrating! Check Lossless scalling app on steam - it doesn't add that much input lag and won't fix when game freezes etc. but it can double your fps easily for cost of bit input lag! I have RTX 3070 while game runs completely smoothly most of the time these parts make it unplayable when fps plummets! I play other demanding games that tax GPU on 99% and have no problem... And have to run REFramework 4 to fix scope lag...
