[Updated] How To Revert To Previous Versions
Previously you were able to revert back to earlier versions of Paradox Development Studios (PDS) games at will on Steam. These specific versions predate the enactment of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) - hence they are not compliant with the new policy.

In order to continue our endeavor to reach full GDPR compliance, we have designed a new system regarding the access to earlier versions of PDS titles: from the 1st of October 2018 onward all previous versions of PDS titles will be locked under a Steam password.

After 1st October, you will need to log into the Paradox Plaza website with your Paradox Account to access the codes for previous branches of each game that you own. This will, however, require you to link your Steam account to your Paradox Account. In an effort to comply with the GDPR, this is something we need to put behind the Paradox logins as it requires agreement to the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use to adhere to the GDPR guidelines.

To get the codes for previous versions:
Go to https://accounts.paradoxplaza.com/games and log in (or create) your Paradox Account.
You will have to link your Steam and Paradox accounts to see your games - where your codes will be listed.
To link your Steam and Paradox Accounts: simply go to the Settings tab. Under Steam account click connect (you will then be redirected to Steam to confirm your action).
With that done the Games tab on Paradox Plaza will show the list of codes needed to revert to previous versions.
See below to revert to older versions under passlock.

How to switch to old branch versions:
Go to your Steam Library and select your game of choice.
Right-click and select Properties.
Under the “BETAS” tab.
Enter the relevant code retrieved from Paradox Plaza and click “CHECK CODE”.
Select the version you wish to play and wait for Steam launcher to finalize the switch.
If the previous step fails, exit the game, right click properties, local files, Verify integrity of game files and wait for all files to be verified.

For FAQs and further discussion on this subject, please visit the main thread for these changes on our forum at this link: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/1120883/

If you don't have a Paradox forum account yet, or need help with anything, feel free to post. I'm going to leave this thread unlocked so that we can help each other out.

Do NOT use this thread to complain about GDPR etc please.

Thank you.

What a mess !

First, I found out that the link between Paradox and my Steam account was lost, so I had to re-enable it. Does it happen often and why didn't I get a notice about it ?

Second, the page for linking your steam account did not work on Chrome (I'm probably not the only one to have had that problem). I had to relog on Firefox to re-install the link, with Steam asking me confirmation because I was using a new browser.

Everything went fine once I got the code to unlock the previous versions, so at least that part functions correctly.

Thank you.

Can I use it to complain about your nonsensical implementation resulting from your interpretation of it?

Edit: "Your" being Paradox, not anyone personally.

Don't worry, I won't get offended by that.

And as long as you do it in a productive manner and follow all the forum rules, sure. Take a crack at it if it makes you feel better to express your opinion. :)

I can only imagine this is being done due to the "informed consent" part of the legislation and as of now, I'm not seeing how this does much that wasn't already in place. Arguably, it makes matters worse because it forces people to potentially provide personal information that was otherwise unattainable.

I particularly think the reason listed does not fully legitimise itself when...

...in order to play the game you are supposed to read and agree to these things anyway and have had to do so for years. Yes, we all know nobody reads them (well, a minority bothers) but making people sign up to the forum so that they "read" it is only going to produce the same reaction of *click click next next*.

Here's some bullet point guidelines that seem appropriate:
  • Consent requires a positive opt-in. Don’t use pre-ticked boxes or any other method of default consent.
  • Explicit consent requires a very clear and specific statement of consent.
  • Keep your consent requests separate from other terms and conditions.
  • Be specific and ‘granular’ so that you get separate consent for separate things. Vague or blanket consent is not enough.
  • Be clear and concise.
  • Avoid making consent to processing a precondition of a service.

A particularly interesting point of the GDPR which this process seems to go completely against is you're not allowed to lock the use of the software behind a consent process that requires agreement when the data collection is not required for the software to function. All the analytics collection which is presumably the main concern is not required for an end user to play the game.

I'm sorry that this post is very GDPR focused but when the cited reason is to keep in line with the GDPR while seemingly going against many parts of the legislation, it's somewhat tricky not to talk about it.

Old versions of the game cannot launch a window that makes you look at the updated privacy policy. As such a person who

1) buys the game
2) installs it
3) chooses a previous version
4) launches the game

Can legitimately make a GDPR violation claim. Since no 'informed consent' was made when they started the game.

The problem is that the GDPR requires users be shown all the nonsense of the GDPR regardless. It cannot bar you from service but it has to SHOW you the policy for you to accept or decline. The game isn't locked behind consent. Youc an decline the privacy policy. But it does have to show it to you and give you the choice. WHen they refere to locked they mean that if you click "no" the game exists or something. Since older versions have no capacity to show you the GDPR compliaint privacy policy they would be definition be a violation of the GDPR if you loaded an older version as is.

Nope. When someone buys the game and attempts to install it, a prompt opens during that process before any files download which shows the EULA (which they are supposed to read) and directs them to the Privacy Policy (which they are also supposed to read).

It is. If you decline the EULA and Privacy Policy because you read them during the install process and disagree on the grounds of data collection, Steam will not install the game.

Edit: Separated this bit out...

"Informed consent" requires that the consent for personal data collection is not bound by or buried in other agreements.

Well I'm for one am FURY mad that I have to yet again jump through hoops, now even more hoops just to keep my game compatible to the version I need, just so I can attempt to finish a game that I started. 10 years ago DLC wasn't a big deal becaue I just wouldn't buy it, it wouldn't load because it was more "physical". Now I don't believe there is a way to prevent an Auto Update... So my constructive critisicm is stop releasing DLC that has an integration implementation that rewrites the core or original game files, alternatively work with steam to have a better update policy.... This is the last nail to the crucifex for me for paradox games, I've got to much real world stuff to be going through this every handful of months, I'm getting old and grumpy (that really should be a -4 diplomacy triat if not more) ...

Hi, I can not find version 2.8.1.1
Does anyone know how to do it?
Aldodrem 2018 年 11 月 13 日 上午 9:37
All I can see in the Beta list is to opt into 2.8.3.4 (Jade Dragon Expansion)? I need to go back from 3.0 (Holy Fury) to 2.6.3 (Reapers Due)

Man, it's so annoying that everytime Paradox releases a new DLC, they HAVE to break my saves, that pisses me off, seriously...

No
Read the opening post or at least past "..To get the codes for previous versions:.."
In short: get code on Games tab of your Paradox account*, enter code in Betas. Done.

*Scroll down to "Access earlier versions" and open that.
