Crashing Game

My game keeps crashing after I start a new game or load an old game. Please help.

One year later, no answer to this... I have the same problem now: crash on starting a new game or loading an old game. I run on up-to-date Windows 8.

This is going to sound dum ! but I found that no speaker/earphones was connected to my pc. After I plugged it in the game worked again......

I've noticed it's been crashing more recently but don't think it's to do with this ... however it's been out ages so may just be compatibility. It is a great game though and I continue to return to it!
