in the nearly 8 hours (which felt like eternities) i subjected myself to this hellscape, i have experienced all this game has to offer. and though that may be true, i fear there is no inch nor centimeter of this games content i could ever reccomend to another person, friend nor enemy.

everything you've heard is not only true, but undersold. your control swaps between inching through molasses to screeching into hazards with such little regard for level design that it almost functions as a sick joke. almost. to elaborate, your base acceleration is INCREDIBLY slow. every surface is uphill for you. to account for this, your homing attack increases your speed exponentially per use, and can be chained multiple times to quickly exceed your own speed limit. however, use of this is generally impractical, since you're vulnerable to enemies and other hazards around the halfway point of the move. its especially evident when you try to speed through a section and then get crushed by a pillar or hydraulic press you could barely tell was there and hadn't activated at all before you were under it. so the safest way to play is to not use the homing attack outside of straight lines, which are plentiful in the early stages, but rare to nonexistent in the later ones.
speaking of crushing hazards, this game LOVES crushing hazards! the fourth zone, 'mad gear', has an entire level dedicated to a quickly encroaching wall and slamming pillars that can crush or block your path. if you aren't fast enough to get under it before it reaches the ground, it will stay there. forever. there are multiple points in the level where your natural instinct as a player seeing a crushing pillar moving down is to wait for it to cycle, and you're punished for thinking that way. this is the worst example in a sea of contenders for the worst level in the game.
the final boss is a common point of frustration for most players, myself included. the majority of the act, simple half-long re-fights of the first 4 bosses are mostly fine save for the third one which was already poorly designed. the *final* boss however, is terrible! you are tasked with beating the death egg robot ripped from sonic 2 with newly added rings and the homing attack, then forced to fight its slow poorly telegraphed second phase that takes 13 hits for some inconceivable reason to do with having a desperation attack that kills you within 3 seconds if you don't react in time. and of course, if you die, you go directly back to the start of the 5 minute boss you were one hit away from finishing. and you're expected to do the entire stage without taking damage for an achievement.
now, having done all that, i stand atop my throne of broken dreams and sadness and tell unto you my tale of woe.
do not buy the video game. if you are that curious, play episode 2, it's better.

This was a mobile game SEGA tried to port into a real game. As you might imagine, they didn't succeed.
