Stuck (early game)

I have explored the house as much as I could, unlocked the store and the arena, and defeated the first boss (a fish with tentacles). All paths now require abilities which I do not have and I have no idea what the 2 doors on the top floor and the other 2 on the ground floor are supposed to do. There is also the piano.

From browsing the discussions, I assume that I should be able to unlock traversal skills with the Tattooist NPC, so I would like to know how to trigger their appearance or whether something else is required.

At this stage, you should have found the code for either the garden door in the kitchen or the box in the office. Overall the game does not guide you even when you pin a quest in the log.

Thank you for the suggestion.
I found the code for the desk at office (can't recall what was there) and looked up the code for the garden door (another corpse whose memories require traversal abilities to proceed). So still no idea what to do next.
