Sounds like a bug. Thank you for reporting this!

There are many issues with the menu system. The save state really needs a proper naming system i.e. Stage 1 etc, rather than a data message. Alsoon truxton switching back and forth a few times in the menu causes overlay issues on the menu screen.

The option to change the mode is greyed out.

This isn't a problem in Zero Wing, Out Zone, or Truxton.
